Darlene and the Kansas City Mob (major spoilers)

Would Frank actually work with the person who shot his kids balls off?! I can’t believe that she wasn’t immediately hunted down and killed by the mob, I mean, what stopped them. Do they really even need her for the heroin business when they could just kill her and take it over?

As Darlene put it to Frank Senior:

"I have men, you have men, and if you want, we can go to war."

I have the feeling that both Frank's "mob" and Darlene's "mob" are fairly small in size(figure 10 to 20 men each) and that an actual battle could kill significant numbers of them, and be hurtful to business. And let's say Frank and his men killed Darlene right there on the spot. They'd have to kill Ruth, too -- and Darlene likely left orders with her men "If I don't come back, you guys head up to Franks operation and kill as many as you can." Or something like that.

From Frank Senior's side, he has things to think about. He DID declare Ruth untouchable and his son DID touch her -- beat her nearly to death. Frank Senior joins a long line of movie mob fathers with punk sons (see: John Wick) and mixed feelings about them.

Frank also knows this: Marty Byrde is now threatening his small time Kansas City mob with cartel retalitation. Frank doesn't like that...but it does scare him. Darlene is offering Frank a united front: The Hillbilly mob versus the Mexican cartel and the Yuppie Scum Byrds.

Maybe Frank likes that...

Season Four is not certain yet...but it surely would be fun...

PS. Best line in the scene is from Darlene: "None of this can ever bring Frank Jr.'s pecker back, I know, but...."

This was brilliant, thank you so much for taking the time to thorough explain it. I really like how you mentioned the mob fathers with sons that they are somewhat disappointed in.

Darlene as a character is so amazing, she could have a whole spin off, her young life, how she became the poppy queen. I usually don’t like female driven plot lines even though I’m female, but I would love to watch that or write it.

I kind of get the feeling Darlene didn't do any of it for Ruth, except in the sense that she wanted to cement Ruth's loyalty, and she wanted to introduce herself to Frank Sr to make the alliance. That's just the way Darlene is.

True. Darlene is out for Darlene...and genuinely psychotic.

But she sure proved herself in a way to Ruth that the Byrds refused to do.

It HELPS to be psychotic.

Marty and Wendy was willing to still work with Helen after she had her brother killed.
Although there's was slightly different circumstances having an already established relationship with Wendy and also working out of fear however these people deal in Dollars and that unfortunately seems to override any family compassion they have so i can quite easily see Frank overlooking his sons bad injury but not actually having him killed.

This was where Darlene was smart, she only injured him and didn't kill him, this accomplished 2 things, one she shows Ruth she did this for her to form an ally and secondly a death too his son meant Frank Snr wouldn't of overlooked this and gone to war but a bad injury he could just about get over seeing he will make millions.

I actually think that he would. I think Frank is plenty tired of his son's antics by now.

I mean, what are you even going to do with someone who is this stupid and uncontrollable...

ETA: I mean, seriously, the guy was loansharking with the FBI right there at the casino - dude is hopelessly dumb, AND dangerous to the whole operation.
