The ending ruined the movie - Get Out (2017) Discussion

Eh I disagree. I didn't love the ending, but I definitely don't think it ruined the movie.
I would have been more satisfied if they had managed to get Chris and instead his friend tracked down the place at a later time and found him like the others. But I don't think the film would be as pleasing to general audiences. People wanted to see Chris kill the f*ck out of those people, and the packed theater I was in were loving his revenge scenes.

They also loved the humor. I wasn't totally onboard with the comic relief (at least not all the time, he did have some funny moments), but the theater was laughing a whole lot when that character was on screen.

I wish the ending had been stronger, but I'm not against the one we got either. Overall I quite liked the film.

You know . . . I don't mind films where the protagonist doesn't survive, but I would have HATED this movie if Chris hadn't survived. That family was awful, and they all needed to be dead so I was very pleased w/the ending! My audience clapped at every death!

Some people might think I'm reading too deep into this, but I think the revenge ending was absolutely necessary for a black audience to walk out of this film enjoying it. For Peele to get this movie made in the first place, with a super mainstream release and marketing that appeals to a diverse audience, this movie absolutely haaad to have a positive ending for the black protagonist. So many horror flicks have come before it where the black dude dies in the first 5 minutes. This movie had a lot greater significance for black people than you'd think on the surface.

I think it would have had much more significance if Chris didn't survive. I would have shown that with all the strides we've made with this racist culture, we still have a long way to go. I think the ending gave people a sense that everything is OK and that all our problems with racism are over.

I hear you, but I think that ending would have been too depressing. This family had already gotten away w/murdering several black men and one black woman. As a black woman, I wouldn't have rated the film so highly if Chris had been taken too. It would have really bothered me to think of that evil family still out there, abducting and killing innocent people. No, I needed to see them die. Plus, I really liked Chris. I felt for him and wanted him to get out of that crazy situation.

There have definitely been movies where I wouldn't have minded a more bleak ending, but this was not one of them. For me, the ending was perfect!

I was just so shocked that his girlfriend turned out to be one of the evil ones, She was my favorite up until that point. Looking back, it is clear that was why she did not want the cop to see Chris's ID. I was a little confused when she said she loved him when he was choking her at the end, but it was probably to try to survive

It's because she didn't want the police to have his name on record for that case of hitting the deer since he was going to go "missing" shortly after and it would be traced back to her and her family if his information was taken down by the officer.

I loved the ending but I would have liked it better if the girlfriend was killed definitively. She did the most lasting damage.
I could see her coming back for a sequel.

Maybe it could have ended weeks later with Rod's investigation of his friend's disappearance leading him to the Armitrage's estate ... Rod pulls up in his car. He spies Chris working in the front yard. Rod calls out to him. Chris looks up, his expression blank. Rod smiles. Chris' blank expression remains. Rod calls out to him again. Chris opens his mouth and from it issues a piercing pod scream. Rod's reaction is one of horror. Chris continues screaming, pointing at Rod as he does so. Rod looks around. From every direction Armitrages and their allies spill. The camera zooms in on Chris' open maw until the screen goes black. Cue credits. No music.

Best Part of the movie. Too cliche to do an ending where the protagonist loses...it's been done plenty.... a false sense of winning maybe like cameras pan out and you see they are being watched my surveillance cameras by the government or some shit that's bigger than back woods crazy white folk

The part I didn't like was the cop car. How did the TSA guy get a cop car? it doesn't even make sense...
