why didnt they set it present day ?

I read they set it in the 30s? due to the original books being set then (so why didnt they set MP1 in the 30s??)anyway surely a better bet for success would've been to set it present day with MP visiting the grandchildren or greatgrandchildren.. if they wanted some of that olde London look/feel theres still places that have it there.. (see Potter and Paddington)

Why set it today? What's wrong with the 1930s? By setting it then, they were able to bring back the original children, Jane and Michael Banks--a direct connection to the first movie.

reply

Well..because its bombed. had it been set today like Potter maybe it'd have connected with audiences more

reply

It has not "bombed", and it connected just fine with intelligent audiences.

Potter isn't set "?today", the open scens pof thspoe are..though

Problem with present day is it probably would have become more about put down the devices, get off Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and etc., and get out and enjoy life with the Family, personally I feel it would have got real preachy in other words.

reply

The father wouldn't have dared sent the children grocery shopping alone just for starters.

reply

Jane and Michael would be dead in the present. As another poster stated they needed the connection to the original story.
