A few ridiculous things about the movie

I liked it, but nowhere near as much as the first, although the drugs plot was interesting.

However, I thought several things were silly:

The robot dogs and the robot woman, whatever that did. Seriously? That drugs kingpin invents seriously advanced robotics and the world doesn't take advantage of it?

The cable car spinning like a centrifuge - what the hell was the purpose of that?

The electric lasso that cut a guy in half, but with no bleeding whatsoever - what??

The opening car chase - too much CGI for my liking.

And the kicker: the stadiums filled with thousands of STACKED cages, each holding an infected person!! Where the heck did they suddenly get such resources from? And how did they put the cages on top of each other? And isn't it rather overkill to do that when all you have to do is to just lock all the people in the stadiums and post guards? It's not like they're going to kill each other like in the first movie, now is it?

However, I loved Elton John in this movie, with his cussing of the bad guys and actual participation in fighting them.

The drug plot was one of the worst things in the movie. Do you know why the villain made $250 billion in profits in a year? Because drugs are illegal, so it's easier for her to control an illicit trade when it's underground. Do you know what happens when it becomes legal? Now everything is out in the open and competition is free to eat away at her profits. Plus if the plan backfired and all the druggies died that means everyone would stop taking drugs for fear of being infected so she is out of business. Plus by exposing herself now every government agency would be hunting her down. All they have to do is inform the Cambodians about a billionaire living secretly in their country. The Cambodians will take care of the rest. Dumbest...Villain...Ever.
She didn't invent the android and android dogs. One of her lackeys did. Honestly I don't know how she hasn't been killed by one of her lieutenants. She brings nothing to the table.
I'm guessing the cable car centrifuge is an homage to some of the crazy Bond death traps. A bit of fun but totally impractical.
I'm guessing the laser lasso cauterizes as it cuts just like a light saber (which is why we don't see blood gushing whenever a Star Wars character loses a limb).
The cages are probably trying to draw out more sympathy from the audience for the victims, but it's a little too over the top. Belief can only be willingly suspended so far.
There was too much Elton John. A cameo is great but he was almost a main character.

I agree that the whole thing makes very little sense, but I would like do address your first point: the purpose of Julianne Moore's character's plan was not to increase her profit, it was to allow her to become a legitimate businesswoman, so that she could freely enjoy the benefits of being a multi-billionaire.

reply

She already was a multi-billionaire, plus she had the added benefit of being unknown by everyone so she could already do whatever she wanted. Instead she exposes herself thinking that asking for immunity from prosecution is going to save her. If her plan actually succeeded her life span would have been measured in days. I think the old saying says it best: The Greatest Trick the Devil Ever Pulled Was Convincing the World He Didn't Exist.

“The cable car spinning like a centrifuge - what the hell was the purpose of that?”

This is real. The cart in Aosta Valley northern Italy (filming location) spin to show the magnificent view - a bit like the spinning restaurant on top of The Space Needle tower in Seattle, for example. Known for being the most expensive cable car ever made. One 360 spin takes 6 minutes.

The bad guys then just spin this in overdrive that is all.

OH, really. Ok, that's where they got that from. I thought that was too much. I was wrong.
