If you can leave your brain at the door of the theatre, and make sure it doesn't peak any time during the movie, then it's an okay popcorn comedy. If you can't then stay away (or wait for streaming). Roland Emmerich movie? Expect big action, bad writing and little in terms of historical accuracy. In other words he's going to channel Michael Bay. I think it will depend on whether this movie has legs or not. Foreign receipts will be important but so will people domestically going to see the movie more than once. If those factors work then G:KOTM could turn a small profit. WB needs to get their financial house in order though. $170m for a CGI fest (granted the CGI monsters are gorgeous when we're allowed to see them)? If they do, and they do it right (no one gives a crap about the humans WB), then I will be there opening night. Too bad it would mean we would get a Godzilla/Kong team up movie instead of a versus movie (although we all know Kong wouldn't have a chance :-o ). To be fair Godzilla was never going to have wide appeal domestically. I think it's going to depend on foreign receipts to judge success. The movie is already three hours long. If they showed that the movie would be 4 1/2 hours long. In real life that would take years to sort out. In a comic book movie you can resolve this with "One month later..." and then life is back to normal. Am I surprised an Avenger executed a foe? A little. Am I surprised a Norse god executed a foe? Nope. Gone With The Wind has been around for 80 years. Endgame has been out for 4 days. Potts in a suit (which I think is called Rescue) is canon and nice to see (we saw it in Iron Man III). On the third act epic battle scene Scarlet Witch IS the most powerful person on the battlefield, it's just the writers keep nerfing her for some reason. So seeing her almost defeating Thanos single handedly is completely believable. Valkyrie leading Asgard? Sure, why not. Frees up Thor to do cool stuff (no movie for you Valkyrie). Captain Marvel was used as a Deus Ex Machina the entire movie, so it was nice to see Thanos punch her into next week (using the power stone was a brilliant move on his part). The part I couldn't handle was the "Girl Power Assemble!" scene when Captain Marvel was given the gauntlet. Were all of the other women who showed up just standing around waiting for their cue? Horrible writing! When used organically female heroes work fine. When forced they do not. I wish Disney would learn this before they destroy the MCU like they are doing with Star Wars (#prayforIX).
