Awful 3rd Act

I was liking it until the 3rd act. Just becomes a rehashed plot with bad CGI and poor writing.

reply

yeah it was bad, Gozer was easily defeated and Peter never apologized to Egon...that was weird.

reply

The whole Ray not believing Egon about Gozer and disowning him because he stole their equipment was so stupid. I mean don't you think Egon would reach out and be like hey check out all these Gozer inscriptions or maybe just take a picture of the huge hole in the ground that has ghosts shooting out of it. Maybe send that to Ray to show him its real and get his help? Nah.

reply

The daughter said no photos. Egon wasn't someone who took pictures. All the ones he had of her was clipping or ones that someone else took.

reply

OK, send a video. He uses a video camera in the first film. Maybe make an exception since you're trying to prevent the end of the world and save your family?

reply

It's a kids movie. Sheesh.

reply

The famously lame "George Lucas" defense.
Ok, nice try.

reply

But it really is.

reply

Well, it's a sequel to a comedy for families. So I would call it a family movie, not a kids movie. It's not Spy Kids nor Peppa Pig.

And even if it was a kids movie, it doesn't have to be stupid because of that.

reply

I don't think it's stupid tho'. It's just simple / not convoluted.

reply

It's PG13 not G, so it doesn't mean you just have to accept everything as is, there can be some thought to it. Just look at the 84 version which was a quirky supernatural comedy. This film was going fine until the 3rd act where things about characters we already know about do things that don't make sense. Out of anyone, Ray would believe Egon, but no, he writes him off as dead because he stole their car and some equipment? The plot can be simple, but both those characters' actions don't make any sense considering what we already know about them.

reply

It's PG-13 because of some frightening images and whatnot. Not because of the story is adult orientiated. It's clearly a kids movie.

reply

It doesn't need to be adult oriented. You can have logic and reason in PG13.

reply

You can, but it's not a necessity. As long as kids like it, it's good enough. The logic is there, you just don't agree with.

reply

Well yeah I don't agree with it. Hence the post lol

reply

Which I don't agree. I think the writing is good enough, it's just an simple / non-covoluted writing.

And while the CGI quality is questionable, I think they're trying to homage 80s SFX style. It doesn't work that well, but it's not bad.

reply

I guess if you love writing just based on trying to play off of nostalgia sure. It's a sequel to the 80s films so it's not geared towards just young adults, but to fans of those films who are now obviously adults. That doesn't mean it has to be an adult oriented story. The whole 3rd act was a cgi fest with points taken right from the 84 version. Only the marshmallows in Walmart come alive, remember the dogs or Gozer and then the original Ghostbusters show up out of thin air. It's a play on nostalgia and was comically bad in my opinion.
