Spoiler: Who thinks that Gordo actually ****d?

So who thinks Gordo actually raped Robyn? I don't think he did - he just wanted to plant a false story to traumatize Simon, just as Simon traumatized Gordo years before by planting a false story. No matter what Simon says or does after all of these bizarre Gordo interactions, he's lost Robyn and the baby for good - and lost any happiness at home because he'll forever be wondering: did Gordo have my wife? Even if the baby is Simons he will always be wondering and his marriage will always have that awful unknown hanging over him. So for Gordo, it's mission accomplished.

And why the monkey mask? Is there a reason like, "I'm just monkeying around with you." The movie is full of symbolism so the choice of mask might mean something to Gordo.

robyn told gordo that simon has a fear of monkey's i think and i feel like gordo did not rape robyn

No Gordo didn't seem like that at all. He's just messing with him.

First: You should change the title of your question, cause you're giving a spoiler away in the title. Is it really that hard to be considerate? I see other people doing the same dumb thing here and it's inconsiderate to those who haven't seen the film.

Second: No, he did not rape Robyn. The whole idea was to give the pretense that it happened just like when Simon made up a lie about Gordon. Gordon knew it would eat Simon up not knowing the truth, so he only needed to toy with his mind. In fact he have no reason to believe Gordon was actually attracted to Robyn, it could all have been an act to make Simon seem even more concerned that Gordon would rape Robyn.

Third: It's pretty clear through out the movie that Simon does not like monkeys. If you pay attention we first see Robyn tell this to Gordon when Gordon picks up a toy monkey in Simon and Robyn's moving boxes. Later Simon again shows he's not comfortable with monkeys when he peeks into the kids room and sees more toy monkeys lying around there in the house Gordon invited Robyn and Simon to. Then we see the video of Gordon wearing the monkey mask to toy with Simon even further, the gift set containing said video also comes with a gift card that has a picture of a monkey in a stroller to amplify it even more. It's pretty clear trough out the whole movie actually.

Geez. I did not give away any info with the title of this thread. I used astericks instead of any give away words. I certainly did warn readers by writing "spoiler" in the title. And the monkey mask of course was mentioned in the film and how the husband had a strong dislike for them, however my question was why and what happened in his childhood to cause that aversion. That wasn't addressed in the film that I could catch, just statements that he was creeped out by them.

reply

You did not ask that and no there's no explanation to why Simon doesn't like monkey. He wasn't raped by a monkey or anything.
People who are scared of spiders doesn't often have a reason. We don't need a reason to dislike something, sometimes we just dislike things.

I think Gordo is the dad

I got the impression that he didn't rape her. But that marriage is over.

The one scene where she is pregnant trying on a dress or looking at dresses and he was standing outside but ran off once she came outside to me made me think he was making sure she didn't have another miscarriage because his seed was inside her.

The movie doesn't work for me unless he did rape Robyn. The idea is for Gordo to continue the lie so neither Simon or Robyn, to a lesser extent, know the truth. Simon could show the video to Robyn in order to win her back and show he isn't the bully she thinks he is. It also shows how creepy Gordo is by taping their private conversations. Or maybe Robyn just finds out. The monkey mask works on two levels. One is to scare or "bully" Simon even more and not reveal who it is to the police. The second part is Simon has to know whether it's his baby or not. He could end up raising Gordo's baby or divorce. Gordo isn't sure it's his baby either; He's interested in the pregnancy, so that's further evidence that he did it. I think he reveals with his eyes comment in the final phone call that it's his baby. Otherwise, his plans has too many holes. What if Robyn isn't pregnant? He doesn't know if Simon can have a baby or not either. It's a long shot that she became pregnant from one time, too, but maybe the idea that he raped his wife would bother Simon. Since Gordo's been secretly watching and listening to their conversations, it could be he helped expose Simon to Danny. That would complete the circle for me in destroying Simon's life. Prior to this, I don't think it was Gordo's plan to exact revenge. He was willing to let bygones be bygones until Simon told him to stay away after their meeting at someone else's house. He realized Simon was still the bully he was back in high school.

Gordo IS the dad but is what he did really wrong??. According to Whoopie Goldberg, drugging a woman and then having sex with her passed out body isn't rape. So you guys go into a tizzy for nothing.

Whoopie's words and opinions, NOT mine.

reply

You mean .. its not rape rape

reply

Not everyone is up on their Whoopie Goldberg lore. Congrats!

This may sound bad but by the end, I didn't even care anymore.

It being mentioned they were having difficulty conceiving makes me think Gordo is the actual father. If not then that was one hell of a coincidence.

I think they also implied that she had a miscarriage in Chicago. So it wasn't like he couldn't get her pregnant. They moved because of the reminders of her miscarriage.
