There haven't been plenty of super-heroine films, though. And sad to say, many people want it to stay this way.

The only reason some people like Wonder Woman, for example, is because a. Gal Gadot is conventionally attractive and b. WW does what a lot of feminist work feels it must to be included - and that's pander to male audiences.
Supergirl the film was a flop. Hit-Girl could easily be a male character.

Also, isn't this the first time in recent years Marvel has featured a female protagonist as its singular lead? I mean, Elektra doesn't count, does it? I can't say Black Widow really counts, either, as she's only ever been part of an ensemble, same as the women in X-Men.
