Really not that good

Popular garbage musical. Bad singing, bad dancing, mediocre acting.
The Academy practically gave away the Best Director and Best Actress Oscar.
Honestly I think that the Academy has lost all creditability.

reply

Totally agree with you. Awful film. The Academy is just an old boy's club full of old farts who are bought by the studios to vote however they want them to. In other words, one big joke.

reply

I loved it.Scooby-Doo (and the franchise it is based on)_ is currently worst film!

reply

I do not agree at all.You are stupid.

reply

i thought most of the votes are by actors (the largest voting group), not some cabal of old men in grey suits...

I do agree that the Best Actress Oscar should have probably gone to another actress... Natalie Portman in Jackie was my favourite, personally...

I think the Best Director decision is closer... There was no clearly superior film last year in terms of directing...

The fact that someone is old, male, or wearing a gray suit has nothing to do with his taste in musical films or ability to judge them. A person with several decades of experience seeing musicals, and who has seen all of the musicals of the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, is much better qualified to judge this movie than anyone who has only been alive for a couple of decades and hasn't seen much.

reply

I concur. It is a fantastic film! Well-crafted and endearing AF. ;)

Detractors be damned.

reply

I agree. This gets a NOPE.

One of like three movies in my entire life that bored me in the middle, I forgot I was watching, mind wondered completely away, I had to shut it off as I was falling asleep to it mid day - I kid you not, and I never do that. Ever.

And I do music: play, write, sing, record, produce, enjoy many other musicals, classic, and modern.... not sure what happened here, but I just didn't care about any of it. I watched it because it seemed like it would be fun and amazing... got nothing from it, none of that. BARELY able to finish over 2 or 3 days. Never again.

Everyone is different and able to like whatever they like.

a boring surface level self indulgent "Hollywood porn". Glamorizing the struggling actress who gets a break. the struggling musician who doesnt sell out. its a paint by numbers of cliche Hollywood crap. and if theres something Hollywood loves, its this glamorized struggle of how they all deserve it and how great they are

reply

Why does anyone think the academy ever had any credibility? Think about it. The academy is made up of people that make movies but you will not find a single member that has a perfect record of making only good movies. So their own inability to produce only good movies indicates they aren't all that great. If you can't churn out consistently good movies either as a director, actor or whatever then why should anyone think you are any better and picking out the best of a handful of movies or actors? Hell if you could only churn out above average movies I would say you deserve to be deciding what is good or bad in a movie... but that doesn't happen. Frankly a fucking People's Choice Award has more credibility because at least it was based on how many fucking people actually like something not based on a small group of idiots.
