It reminds me of the Sulu is gay in JJ Abrams star trek. Like you have to stretch your imagination to see it in the film.
I just said the thing about Lando to show you how stupid some things in this movie are. Robots being feminists, Lando being made a pansexual. Its just crazy how they insert this crap into this movie. Can't they just expand the Star Wars lore instead? Like how hard is that shit? I've seen fanfiction and Legends stories that are 1000 times more engaging...
share I would agree and I just wonder what motiviates the writers to claim they are advancing identity politics in their movies while its so obvious the studios are unwillng to make their films less marketable by showing this on screen. its Like when JK rowling claimed dumbledore was gay after all the harry potter books and movies were out. Its like year right you may be the original writer and auther but we don't find your alleged gender identity claims being evident in any of the films or books. Either shut up or grow a pair. The producers of course rightfully won't allow their films to loose market value though so they might as well start compelling their writers to sign NDAs to keep them from claiming nonsense like this.
Yeah indeed. They claim to be super progressive but they don't put their money where their mouth is. Either go with it fully or shut the fuck up. In any case, I do think Star Wars should have gay characters (when it makes sense, just like a hetero character). Just make up new characters. Don't gayify old characters. That just feels very forced and not genuine.
shareI'm actually of the mind set that sexuality is overly represented in films. Romantic sideplots tend to overshadow the danger the group is facing. I always liked how horror films like Alien and the Thing (Both things) avoided romantic subplots and it enhanced the horror of the film. I actually wish films would tone it back a little. This push for identity inclusivive ness is taking time away from the plot that needs all the development time it can get in films that are usually sub 2 hours.
shareTrue. But its great when it works though. Just look at The Lord of the Rings. It worked fine there. In the case of Deadpool it also worked quite well. Romance is a natural thing. Humans are attracted to other humans. The thing directors and writers have to do is make it relevant to the story or just not include it at all.
They also have to make it believable and natural.
