I didn't like this, unfortunately (spoilers)

Bear in mind, I enjoyed Gareth Edwards 'Godzilla'. The pace was slow and deliberate, and it really conveyed the huge scale of the monsters and the destruction they caused. The film gave you goosebumps the first time Godzilla roared and used his atomic breath.

By contrast, I hated 'Kong: Skull Island'. I'll never forget that ridiculous sequence where Tom Hiddleston, wearing a gas mask, runs through a bright green fog, chopping up little pterodactyls with a samurai sword in slow-motion.

'Godzilla: King of the Monsters' falls somewhere in between those two films. The monsters look cool (Mothra and King Ghidorah are the highlights), the mythology is interesting and the villains were surprisingly sympathetic. The concept of Monarch, a globe-trotting secret society of military scientist / archaeologists with all kinds of cool gadgets, is great.

However, the longer the film goes on, the more you notice how the narrative is rushed and messy, the impressive cast is given little to do (particularly Charles Dance and Sally Hawkins), the action scenes are semi-obscured by a smokey haze and confusingly shot, and it doesn't have an ending ... it just stops once King Ghidorah is destroyed.

(said with incredulity) What...?

You aren't a "Thunderbirds" fan, I guess...

Thunderbirds were a rescue team above all else.

Agree with everything about Godzilla 2014, great build up and fantastic payoff. The human stuff wasn’t anything amazing but it wasn’t laughably bad like it is in this sequel.

The action was so confusingly shot in this and it kept cutting away to the humans reacting to it all and then back to the monsters for a second and then back to the humans. It was awful, at least Kong’s action was clear and well directed.

I didn't care for the dramatic pauses the film kept doing looking at the casts bulbous facial expressions while the camera slowly circled around them to reveal what they were looking at. That was actually very anti climatic. Also short monster cuts arn't good for a 3D movie either if you saw it in 3D that is.

I liked both films but Skull Island was vastly superior to the 2014 reboot. It was a zany ott Lost world movie that we barely get anymore.

reply

Agreed, Kong: Skull Island sucked

So predictble. Every one hated the 2014 version but now every one claims to love it in comparison to the 2019 version. Garth Edwards made the mistake of thinking his human characters were more interesting then Godzilla and the Mutos by giving godzilla like only what 9 minutes of screen time and contrived cock tease cut aways as soon as godzilla showed up in frame.

Oh look, some guy who thinks he speaks for “everyone”.

So predictable.

Never said I speak for every one. Clearly I'm not speaking for the trolls here. Noticing obvious trolling trends isn't speaking for everybody.
