The last scene in the classroom was anti-climactic and underwhelming. It should have been left out.

I disagree. It carries home the theme of the film and shows that Watney made something with his life after being rescued.

Well, it was an epilogue. They tend to occur after the drama has ended.

I figured he'd become a motivational speaker to crowds of thousands instead of teaching a bunch of kids how to astronaut. Oh well.. I was strangely OK with that ending.

It should have been interspersed with the end credits.

It was appropriate and fitting. Life goes on. Saving Private Ryan, I mean Watney, means that the space program goes on and he inspired a new generation to follow in his footsteps.

I think it was necessary to show he lived happily ever and wasn’t traumatized by what happened
