Was the donkey actually shot irl?

they actually killed a donkey?

I doubt it, they can train animals to do falls, or they could just use a mannequin of a donkey

reply

I agree Jackintocupboard and Popcorn Kernel.. the donkey was no doubt trained to fall and as for the kangaroo, how do you even staple a kangaroos foot to the floor?! That sounds like when my uncle told me he ate monkey brains like a soft boiled egg when he went lived abroad!

I tend to believe that they just shot it with a tranquilizer dart. However, since the rest of this movie is so extremely cruel, I cannot be sure of this.

It was also stupid and fascistic. I give it a 4/10. Terrible.

Why did she shoot the donkey? Putting a transformed human out of misery?

reply

I believe the donkey was a former husband/boy friend who she hated, and she killed it out of spite. That was my take.

reply

Wonder if she was coupled or on the run.

An interesting question, filmtenk. We don't know.

Yes. I've seen animals shot and dying, this donkey was shot and died. If you pay attention you see that a front leg has been tied down, look at the manner in which it tries to move back. It nearly fell prior to being shot because of this. This is not an American film with American rules.

Edit:

The only reference to this is once in an Irish newspaper;

"Dr Malone recalled one early-morning scene when a donkey had to be ‘shot’ outside the hotel and a vet was brought in to anaesthetise it briefly for the scene. But a local landowner, who was oblivious to the steps being taken to protect the animal, approached the crew and shouted: “There’ll be no donkey shot on this farm.”"

1. It was already established that a donkey would be anesthetized and killed.
2. The donkey does appear anesthetized.
3. They only needed to move to another location.

Looked pretty real to me.

So did the other donkey's reaction.

If it was CGI, it was some of the most realistic CGI animal I've ever seen. But of course it wasn't real. Hundreds of people are involved in the making of a film. You think no one would raise an issue?
