So we find again the deaf henchman from Season 1

Interesting.

Can someone please explain to me what the guy speaking in Hebrew was about? It flew above my head. I thought the bowling alley was purgatory or something and Nikki was dead. Apparently not.

reply

She and the deaf prisoner might be dead as well as Yuri... they only said she was missing... possibly gone to Canada. That bowling alley could be a waystation and Yuri might be facing judgment for the collective sins of his people.

Amazing episode, with call backs to Fargo, The Big Lebowski... even Varga was talking like A Clockwork Orange.

Agreed, this is the episode of the season that has most grabbed my interest.

I doubt it was intentional, as it's not one of their movies, but did the animal masks make anyone else think of You're Next?

reply

They are definitley not dead. The preview for next week shows Yuri holding his signature batton/whip weapon, so it seems he will return. The synopsis also reads "Nikki makes a deal". It's likely that Nikki and Mr Wrench have teamed up to mess with Emmit's head, Their way of getting revenge on the "wicked" which was blatantly said during the speech by the wandering jew in bowling alley purgatory. He absolved their sins and spared them death to let them have their vengeance on the wicked.

reply

You sure? Officer Gloria "Nora" Burgle can't trigger automatic doors and she also also met up with Mr. Purgatory. Something wacky is afoot.

With Fargo something wacky is always afoot.

We know Wrench lives because isn't this a prequel to season 1?

reply

This current season takes place 4 years after season 1.

reply

Ahhh thank you, so then he could die. But I think he and Nikki escaped for real.

reply

So was the bowling alley a dream or a hallucination?

reply

I think it is an intersection between the real world and something more supernatural. Like maybe it's a real place but some angels or spirits or something "other" used it as a portal.
It had a very surreal atmosphere, but when 3 different people all see the same thing I have to assume it was at least somewhat real. Maybe it's like the village in Brigadoon- it can appear and disappear. Or like the town in "Big Fish". Which also has Ewan in it, and is sort of about the stories we are told.

Did you also notice the beginning was different, when it said "this is a true story", it showed the words one at a time instead of the whole sentence, and then they fade away to just leave "story".

It's funny how Ray Wise comes in on a very 'Twin Peaks' like scene which seems weird.

reply

That's exactly what I thought. Just as the story went all Twin Peaks, our old friend Ray Wise appears. I had to sort of blink and remind myself I was still watching Fargo.

Yes. Good to see our old friend from episode one. I recognized his face in the prison bus, but could not place him at that time.

I think the Jewish guy was some sort of spirit or avenging angel. He helped Nikki and the deaf guy, and showed Yuri that he was going to face a bad end for his misdeeds. I certainly hope so.
BTW, his stupid wolf hat reminds me of the villain in the movie Creep.
