Very excited about this...

I loved the 'Southern Reach' Trilogy, and the fact that Alex Garland is doing this gives me confidence. He is one few who might be able to catch the eerie quiet atmosphere of the books. I hope he has some good ideas to visualize the disturbing imagery that the books paint, because seriously, most of it seems too strange to be grasped by the mind.

It's based on the book that describes "expedition into an area known as Area X. Area X is an uninhabited and abandoned area that nature has begun to reclaim. Strange and supernatural things happened to previous expeditions."

I haven't read the books but this description reminds me of Stalker. This movie sounds like something worth looking forward to.

reply

i have never heard of these books. i will check them out.

I really liked Annihilation (1st book), but now that I'm about 80% done with Authority (2nd book), I'm finding it hard to imagine how that would make it to film.

Just saying that it seems less of a suspense story than the first book. But I'm at least looking forward to the first one.

reply

Agreed. I've read all three and can only see the 1st one being a good film; but they could change it up / add quite a bit as they've done to other book trilogies.

I saw this at a screening a few months back. It is hands down my favorite movie I've seen this year. It was incredible.

reply

You say an entire, complete / finished film? Or just the preview of an incomplete project that they showed in Vegas last spring?

reply

Went to a screening in LA and saw the whole complete finished film.

Garland's Ex Machina is one of my favorite sci-fi ever. I'm so looking forward to this. Can't wait.

reply

Likewise, ever since I saw the trailer for the first time.

From what I can tell, the visuals, tone and overall imagery seem to do the book justice. Iā€™m digging it.

reply

Judging by the trailer the film looks very promising and worthy of a trip to the Cinema.

You will not be disappointed. This is a Sci-Fi Masterpiece, the best film I've seen in years. It's rated 8.2 on IMDB, but I give it
a 9.8. The only film I've ever rated higher is 2001, the only film I've ever given a 10. The score is amazing also. I'm going to order the CD later today.
