Sandra Bullock Did Her Best

The movie was just not very good. Not awful. Not good. Bleh ending. You can skip this one.

5/10.

Can we?
Because personally...I'm afraid we can't do that, Diddy. No, I fear that this movie is actually quite good. Not bad, not perfect, but pretty goddamn good, Diddy.
How dare you sir. Coming in here with your....words...saying stuff about "Not good". Well what if I was to tell you that its YOU who's not good, huh? You know? Because for your information...you're not. But this movie? Well it certainly is. Is what I'm saying. So...there you have it. Truth hurts, huh?

I'd say that I'm sorry for having to give you a beat-down like this, but I'm really not. Because you had it coming, Diddy. You should go watch the Transformers now, because you're....you probably like the explosions, huh?
Boom, sick burn!

Oh yes the patented “you don’t agree with me so you must like the transformers or Fast & furious because I’m so smart and my opinion is the one that matters”. Take a hike. You loved it? Good for you. I’m elated for you. You’re acting like I crapped all over your eggs with my 5/10. Calm your tits.

Lol sorry Diddy, I was trying to be tongue-in-cheek there...ironic even. Someone with zero ability to articulate...accusing someone else of being slow...I was trying to fail at condescension there, if that makes any sense. Apologizing afterward for a "beatdown" that never even came close to manifesting lol
I came THIS close to calling you poopypants but figured it'd be a little too 'on the nose'.

My humor is weird and not always very obvious. It was a slow day at work, I was just messing with you. Sorry guy =D

Sandra Bullock and John Malkovich deserved better supporting actors. I feel like they hopped on board because of Susanne Bier's credentials, but I don't know why Susanne Bier settled for such an amateur supporting cast.

It's over-rated.

Agreed. And that’s problem. Is when expectations are set from hype. Without that I probably go in expecting nothing and give it closer to a 7/10 but if you tell me something is sooo amazing it better be more amazing than that.

That's funny...because I think that's one of the reasons I enjoyed it as much as I did. I hadn't heard anything, but from what I could tell, the premise seemed ridiculous. Blind-folded, really? We're supposed to believe that people are running from monsters BLIND-FOLDED?

It seemed like a pretty absurd premise, but I was out of things to watch so gave it a shot anyway, fully expecting to have to "work" to find some entertainment value, if that makes sense. To have to actively suspend disbelief and seek immersion. Instead, I saw a very well acted movie, which....well that's a lot of what did it for me. The characters were convincing as hell...they sold it. Especially the child actors. That little girl? When she eventually volunteers to be the boat's look-out?
Oh my God man...the room got way dusty way quick.

When the infiltrator guy tears the paper from the windows, that whole scene was some seriously gripping cinema, IMO. Personally, I'm desensitized enough that I generally have a hard time being afraid for characters...but again, the acting. Sandra trying to get the baby out of that woman's arms...the intensity was palpable there. Give her the baby...just hand over the GODDAMN BABY JUST HAND IT OFF!!

But again, coming from someone who fully expected to see a third-rate, likely 'gimmicky' movie, I was very much surprised by the world building, how much I'd been drawn in, at how frustrated I was that girl got out of the boat...she was JUST TOLD to stay in the boat! At just how compelling this movie was compared to what I'd expected.

Coming from the opposite direction, yeah I can perfectly understand how it'd be a disappointment, people carrying on, raving about how amazing the movie is.
Glad I saw it early =]

I liked it overall.

It feels like a little bit of The Happening, a little bit of The Mist, a little bit of 28 Days Later and a little bit of A Quiet Place all rolled into one.

The first act is actually VERY good, I thought. Judging the first act alone, I'd give it a solid 8 or maybe even an 8.5. However, the film does start to sputter a bit after that and the ending wasn't entirely satisfying.

Another issue is that there are some inconsistencies in the story's world that don't seem to be adequately explained, and there are some elements regarding the characters' actions and abilities that really seem very far-fetched (mostly I'm referring to their ability to navigate unfamiliar terrain while essentially blind).

But I did find much of the film to be sufficiently interesting and tense, and the movie did a good job of putting an intriguing mystery on the table that captured my attention.

Overall, I'd give it a 7. Great first act, and then a so-so follow-up.

I would recommend it to people who tend to like movies of its genre.
