Is it me?

Or has this seemed less funny the past couple of seasons?

it's not as funny...The characters are getting older and I would imagine they probably ran out of real stories taken from Adams life a long time ago. You can tell which episodes are made up because he doesn't put the real footage he recorded at the end of the shows..It's a big reason why i feel "schooled" is not that funny. Because it's mostly all made up except the for the first episode. Lainey is supposed to be the star but she isn't that interesting imo to carry a show...I find the gym teacher is more interesting.

Yeah, I've began to wonder how much of these are based on true stories any more.

I guess that's kind of why they have mini interviews with the actors, or cameos from the people they are based on over the credits now.

I felt it was going downhill a bit last year. And whilst I'm still working my way through this season, it does seem worse. Erica going to college didn't help, because they kept having to come up with reasons why she'd be in the episode every week. And this season, the character just doesn't seem as likable any more. Like the episode where she went into her old school, just to hang out and look cool. Or the episode where she seemed embarrassed by her mother doing karaoke where she worked. Beverly is usually the one doing something over the top, and her kids' annoyance is justified. Here, Bev was just doing karaoke at a karaoke bar. I didn't see what was so bad about it, that Erica would get all bent out of shape about it.

Other characters kind of feel parodies of themselves now. And it's been noticeable for a couple of seasons that George Segal isn't in it as much. Is he just getting too old, or is there health things?

You gave all great example of why the show isn't as good anymore.(and i am a huge fan) As for George..I think it's a combination of both. He's really up there now...84.
But yeah it's frustrating because as someone else said there will be some episodes in a season that are just so funny you can't stop watching even though the majority of the episodes are not that funny.

Actually to be fair, I just watched that Bohemina Rap-City one, and it was quite amusing.

"Didn't mean to make you cry", "Whoops".

reply

I have it DVRed I didn't get to watch it tonight. I will though. It was on in the background as I was cooking

reply

Oh sorry, didn't mean to spoil anything.

If you don't mind me asking, are you in the UK? I don't stream or anything, so just watch it on E4 every week.

reply

You didnt spoil anything really. I'm in the states. It comes on ABC here(a broadcast TV station).

reply

Okay. I just assumed that because we'd had the Halloween episode about two weeks ago in the UK, we were months behind.

I've seen a handful of episodes of Schooled now, and kind of agree with this.

I liked AJ Michalka in the Goldbergs, but from what I've seen of Schooled she feels just kind of there. The scenes that are funnier are the ones with the Gym Teacher in.

Having watched the first few episodes of the first seasons, I am not sure it could get less funny.

Oh troll

There’s a reason for that .

I quit the show 1 or 2 seasons ago, not sure how many. It went from mildly amusing to dumb and boring. The Kids Are Alright is a similar theme but better and they actually put effort into the sets for the time period. The closest Goldbergs ever got to the 80's was Carla. None of the main cast dressed or acted remotely 80's.
