$170 million opening weekend, according to Variety

$30-$40 million less than what Disney expected, and $20 million less than Box Office Mojo’s prediction. On track to make $850 million to $1.1 billion.

Financial success means nothing. The best measure of a good movie is rewatchability.

If people don't want to see it again, it's a flas in the pan.

TROS Is doing kinda of Shockingly Great Over Christmas...

reports coming in have it over 150 Million for the 5 days, Thats Higher than TLJ and would put its domestic total at 380 Million+

World Wide should be over 700 Million by Sunday

Its quite surprising considering the "B+" cinemascore and bad reviews...

Most figured TROS would with the bad reviews and Poor WOM It wouldnt hold of this well....

again This is more proof The Star Wars franchise is the ODDEST movie franchise in Hollywood....

Its stunning how despite putting out 7 out the last 8 Star Wars films that have been disliked by the fan base, somehow this fan base that dislikes and Hates these movie still keep showing up in near FULL Force.

It makes zero sense for TORS to open as high as it did and now have these kinda of great holds with after 2 straight films in Solo and especially TLJ that SW fans disliked.....

at this point, Its seems impossible to make A SW film thats actually going to please the fan base, But at the same time, with results like this, I dont think Disney is going to care that much....after all If UNHAPPY SW fans are producing 4 out of the last 5 SW films topping 1 Billion +.....I dont think Disney is gonna lose much sleep over that fact that the fan base dislikes the films ....

It’s still performing lower than expectations. It was expected to have a $600 million opening worldwide and it didn’t make that in a week. I doubt anyone thought it would bomb but it’s certainly lower than projected numbers.

It’s still performing lower than expectations.

^^
Given The horrific reaction to TLJ and Solo completely bombing, I think expectations were completely UNKNOWN for TROS....

I cant imagine anyone at Disney being anything but Thrilled that TROS is heading for a easy 1 B+ gross after The 1-2 punch of DEATH that was TLJ and Solo.

I also have no clue how you could conclude its performing lower than expectations as nearly all box office sites seemed to be not sure what to expect and all seemed to think anythng over 1 Billion would be a win...

It was expected to have a $600 million opening worldwide

^^^^

again not sure where you got this....

I read multiple outlets all reporting a 450 M debut...

http://www.telegraphlocal.com/2019/12/18/star-wars-rise-of-skywalker-projected-450m-global-debut/

Again Its clear overall the franchise is trending down , I think the case can be made BOTH TLJ and TROS didnt live up to expectations overall because of the fan reaction to them....theres certainly a case to be made, had they delivered better movies, BOTH could have and should have made more....

But given The extreme reaction to TLJ, and Solo's failure...I just dont see how TROS's box office can be seen as anything but Incredible....

were looking a total gross likely over 575 Million domestically and 1.1 to 1.2 Billion WW....

simply put that Just doesnt happen after a film like TLJ....When a franchise has a film like TLJ that fails on every level and BURNS the fan base, The next film is almost always DOOMED...

The fact that TROS is Almost going to Match TLJs box office and near 90% of the audience came back is Just Stunning...

I'm sure Disney was worried about a potential Transformers or Pirates type drop off....Literally going from 1 Billion + to dropping of to like 650 Million...

Hey bill...did you know the production budget was 300 million and had a marketing budget of 150 million dollars?

Ya know what that makes the break-even point? About 900 million dollars.

LOL

Yeah..
I doubt Disney is very happy with this performance.
