Does anybody even really care anymore?

I grew up as a SW fan, I never dressed up or anything but I loved the movies, the characters and the toys and games, and I always saw it as THE quality scifi universe.
Then they made the prequels, I was older and I realized Lucas has never meant to be that cool as the first trilogy, the ewok creator took over with his worse geeky, uncool, heavyhanded, pedant side.
But it was still SW.
Now with the last two pieces of post modern crap, it's not SW anymore, that universe is lost and what's left doesn't even interest me: I immediately automatically reject these new installments as another uninspired tie in for the corporate machine, as insipid and safe and obvious as yet another Lego videogame.
Does anybody even care anymore?

I still care...

The answer is no. This has sunk to the level of the Terminator franchise.

I totally agree, but don't you want to see the end of it?
I think, at this point, knowing they sold the soul of SW to Disney, I would rather NOT see it end. They'll make a billion sequels anyway, don't even pretend like there's an end.
They should just admit it's a great universe and leave it open ended, wtf.
And LEAVE THE WAR RAGING. Even better: just show the start of another bunch of wars!

I honestly have no interest in seeing it. I made it through six minutes of Solo before shutting it off, and I think that’ll be the end of my Star Wars fandom.

reply

I'm totally uninterested too, but at the same time I know I won't pass the opportunity to see it for free, kinda like watching a train derail: it's horrible but you can't take your eyes off of it, you want to see what happens at the end.

reply

I’m going to go and see the whole thing through to the end so I can legitimately comment on it without some smart ass saying “You probably didn’t watch the whole movie”

reply

It’s your money. Do as you please.

I agree with you but I often regret this attitude. I wish I didn't see the whole Solo movie too, that was a waste of my time. But that applies to many other movies.
But like you said, it's difficult because you always think "maybe it got better after I left".

I've already seen the end of it. There was a big party in a forest with a bunch of care bears and some corny music. Then three ghosts appeared. Not the BEST ending but at least it was somewhat sensible and happy.
