John Boyega disses on The Last Jedi

John Boyega (Finn) has broke his silence on the sequel trilogy in a recent interview..

"‘Rank the three Star Wars films you are in from best to worst.’ Hell yeah, I’ll do it. 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' is most definitely the best. Second for me comes 'Star Wars 9.' And the worst, in the most respectful sense, 'Episode 8.' But they’re all lovely.”

“'The Force Awakens' I think was the beginning of something quite solid, 'The Last Jedi' if I’m being honest I’d say that was feeling a bit iffy for me. I didn’t necessarily agree with a lot of the choices in that and that’s something that I spoke to Mark Hamill a lot about and we had conversations about it. And it was hard for all of us, because we were separated..."

“I’ll always have some level of nostalgia for 'The Force Awakens'... To a certain extent, there should have been a Stormtrooper rebellion. And then to flesh out Luke’s character a bit more. Give him more moments of redemption, which I feel like was needed after 'The Last Jedi'. I feel like Star Wars fans needed more time with the old characters that we love so much.”as the worst of the 3.

Boyega saying he talked with Hamill about how it wasn't going the way they thought it should brings memories of Shia saying the same about talking with Ford during Crystal Skull

No surprise. Besides Luke's legacy, they destroyed Boyega's character the most.

I agree. To me, it should have been obvious that Finn would lead to a Stormtrooper rebellion to save the day as his big moment. I liked seeing Lando and all, but his saving the day felt too much like a deus ex machina.

And I think there needed to be a Finn/Rose romance that continued instead of sidelining Rose.

Yes

No

Yeah they did him dirty. All of them. Even Rey, by making her character so ridiculously Mary Sue-ish.

It's a shame because they had three charismatic new characters all set up from The Force Awakens and then just wasted them.

reply

The new characters weren't that great from the off, but could've been better served had JJ directed the trilogy instead of going off-piste with Rian (I doubt he'd have been so hard on Luke for example)

reply

At the end of the day, all the Heroes should've reunited on the same screen in The FORCE AWAKENS because THAT'S what drove that movie to the box office number it has currently and it's not because of the New Cast either and it's true..

reply

Its telling the box office went down each movie as they killed off each original character

reply

it is indeed telling.
"fans" cant understand that their heroes have aged

Carrie Fishers dead ffs , does she get a pass now?

For me The Last Jedi is by far the worst Star Wars film. It felt like punishment for liking Star Wars, for wanting your childhood hero Luke Skywalker to be heroic. You wanted to see Luke kick some ass and be a hero? Well we're gonna subvert your expectations and have him be a miserable old man who sits around whinging for most of the film. Even that crappy animated Clone Wars movie is better than this.
