If the Jedi who have passed over are only apparitions, is there a significant reason Yoda was able to whack Luke over the head with his cane?
And of Luke,
how does a living Jedi visit someone as an apparition (BEFORE he has passed over) and still interact physically with them as he did with Leia?
I guess he was using the Force to make his cane seem solid. And Luke was using the Force to make things seem solid, if needed. It is, after all, basically magic.
NOW... What I want to know is how they managed to make Yoda look so awful if they cast the puppet off the original? His face was so scrunched up and he had no expressions whatsoever.
Plus he was seriously screwed up as a Force ghost, since he wasn't translucent! Not even the most basic things about this movie were done correctly, like representing a ghost. Even made sure to have a shot pointing through Yoda with the fire in the background so we could REALLY see that he wasn't translucent.

Agreed. I'd prefer a CGI Yoda over a puppet that doesn't look like the original.

Apparently Yoda has learned more skills allowing him to interact with the real world. Not sure I like this development as it will bring into question why he doesn't help in every pivotal duel....
And they all stand on the ground instead of floating, so yes there is at least passive interaction with their environment. They also output light, output sound waves, and can sense both of those.
