Why can't we have a black James Bond?

Its the only way a Bond film cannot be racist.

For the same reason we can't have an American Bond. It's not true to the source material.

We don't need one.

Why can't we have a white Shaft?

Actually, in all seriousness, I personally would have no problem with Idris Elba playing Bond, and that's coming from somebody who rarely looks up movie news anymore because of the CONSTANT identity politics bullshit in every single discussion.

How about a Punjabi Superman? Let's have an Asian Hulk? Please give us......a Latino Peter Pan?
Or....................maybe..............we just create interesting new characters with more diversity? Why retroactively go back and change a character who was written white, as some kind of PC pandering? It's patronizing and obvious. Don't mess with Santa...and don't FU-K with Shaft. Just create some NEW characters and consider some interesting diversity in the casting of those new concepts.

I think in the comic book universe the hulk is asian now.

The Shaft comment was a joke.

I completely agree with you. I know it's pandering, and I think it's pathetic. I don't think in Hollywood they have any originality left to create new characters. All we've had for the last decade plus is "REmakes", "REboots", or "REimaginings", or anything else where you can get a "RE" in there...and comic book movies.

They know in this political and social climate that changing genders and races of characters from traditionally white to something else will get people talking, discussing, and/or arguing, and when people are talking and something becomes a political issue, it will make money from whatever side wants to pay to support the political or social aspect of it. I say again, I completely agree that they are lazy and they are pandering.

Also, with that being said, in my opinion, Idris Elba is an awesome actor, and I wouldn't mind him playing James Bond. Just because I know they are pandering and have no creative ideas left that they have to gender and race swap characters doesn't mean I can't think some would be ok IN MY OPINION. Elba would be a good Bond if they went that route.

I don't wake up every day thinking about race and identity politics. I'm just aware of it, and the hypocrisy that surrounds it on both sides. It's very annoying. Much like politics in general. I give my opinion, and then go about my day.

He's sort of an iconic character and always had Scottish ancestry. Other than that, I don't see why not.

Wasn't there a huge uproar recently about Princess Jasmine being played by a non-Arabic actress??? So which is it? Is it OK to cast actors who aren't the same ethnicity as their characters or isn't it? Or does this rule only apply to certain races (which would make this entire concept racist).

Why can't there be more white males playing in the NBA and/or NFL???
