Which alien movie jumped the shark?

Alien3?
Alien Resurrection?
Prometheus?
Alien Covenant?

I'd say the fourth movie, it became campy with lame humor.

Alien3.

It actually started off pretty well (I thought), and it didn't bother me (too much, anyway) that Hicks and Newt were eliminated...but then it just devolved into a standard tale of a "monster on the loose" and everyone running around trying to fight back but just getting themselves killed. By the midway point of the film I was bored with it.

Alien Resurrection actually improved in quality over Alien3, but it's still not anywhere close to the bar set by films 1 and 2.

Resurrection and both AVP movies were abominations. 3 was ok, but started the downfall of the series.

I agree that 3 was ok. There hasn't really been a good once since 1986 though.

Aliens, IMO. It's a good flick on its own merits, but to imagine all the directions a sequel to Alien could have gone, or a decision not to follow it up, the one that was chosen in Aliens opens a can of worms that perhaps inevitably leads to the convoluted over-revealing and incremental one-upping to absurdity that we get in Alien3, Resurrection, Prometheus, etc. Without Aliens we would probably not have ever had AvP. That said, having gone down that path, for all its faults I really enjoy the tongue-in-cheek ridiculousness of Resurrection. It's my favorite of the sequels and feels to me like a sort of meta-ironic wink at what inevitably seems to happen as a ~franchise~ like this is allowed to unfurl as it will. It's the totally over-the-shark result of Aliens, but it knows that it is and is having fun and laughing about it. Once we get to Prometheus and AC, we're moving forward from that same far-gone position, now scrounging desperately to bring it all together, but the self-awareness of how actually dumb it all is is not played into.

I agree. It's a classic film, but Aliens really changed the direction of the franchise. (Is it a franchise when there's only on film?)

I find it interesting how different the Alien films are from each other.

Alien (horror)
Aliens (Vietnam movie in space)
Alien 3 (Surreal psychological thriller thing)
Alien Resurrection (Action adventure)

All with the sci-fi horror theme running through them, of course.

I love Alien3 don't get the hate at all.Alien Resurrection was fun but the jumping the shark moment was definitely the AVP movies...They were also quite fun though!

I liked Alien3 back then, but nowadays its just a boring movie.
I disliked Alien 4, but after rewatching it, its not a bad movie up to the point the Alienhybrid comes along and the franchise jumps the shark exactly there.
The AvP spinoffs were horrible and so was Prometheus and Covenant.

Definitely Alien 4

And in my book the AVP movies don't count because in my world, they just have no place in the universe.
