those who like anna kendrick, please tell me

what is the deal with her?

I am not a good judge of actors, I guess, because I'm easily impressed. I'm not an actor so I don't know what to look for. Is she like really good? How come she stars in things? She was the background girl in Twilight, and now she stars in things. Why? She is pretty, and a good actress, but it seems like there are others who are more "conventionally" beautiful.....

so if anyone could explain it I would be interested.

Tiny and vulnerable actor. Give her a skill (math) and an ally (Jack Reacher with math) and go with it.

Is tiny the new black?

I LOVE Ana ! She can sing!!

I thought she was very good in this. I haven't watched anything else she's been in ... and probably won't (or I won't seek them out just because she's in it). If she's in something else I see from here on, I guess I'll at least know who she is.

I don't get the 'Anna Kendrick ruined this movie' comments ... oh well, to each his/her own.

PS: I may track down "Up in the Air", it seems interesting. I assume she didn't "ruin" that movie, but maybe she did. I sure as hell am never going to watch any of the Twilight movies ...

Yes, she's pretty, and she has a relatively unique look. She has far fewer "reminds me of" threads on her IMDB board than the average young actress.

reply

Thank you for your reply, and I agree, she has her own unique look. That's good!

Nlo background girl (LOL term) in Twilight-she was Bella Swan/Kristen Stewart's new best friend (the famous "Hi! I'm Jessica!") after BS moved to Forks, Washingston State. No background character there. Her quote "I'm Jessica" soon became ICONIC enough for "Vampires SUCK!" to use it for frmer Disney costar Annaliese Van Der Pol as "Jennifer" as that film's equvilent to Jessica to say to para-Bella, Becka Swan/Jenn Proske, "Hi, I'm Jennifer". VERY dead on, and matching take on Anna Kendrick's warm greeting to newcomer BS. And that's no BS.

Happy Thanksgiving. Steve

I don't think she has the girl next door appeal of a Sandra Bullock, Meg Ryan, Julia Roberts or Cameron Diaz but I do find her to be a likable character in the various roles she had played. I still see her more as a strong supporting actress than a lead actress, but maybe in time. Who the heck thought Tom Hanks of Bossum Buddies (sp?) would have won so many oscars! :)

I think she has the girl next door appeal myself!

If she can be great, I haven't seen that performance, but she's always good and has some unusual skills. She's an excellent singer, she can be very funny, and she can appear to be extremely intelligent.

All three are unusual skills for actresses in their twenties, and I can't think of anyone else who can do all three, so she's going to get a lot of work and could have a very long career. I don't know if she'll ever make it to the top of the A-list, probably not, but IMHO better to have a long career.

One thing is certain: you can’t play an intelligent character if you’re not intelligent. You may not be as stellar IRL as the character you are playing, but you know what “smart” feels like, and acting is about feeling. Otter, I agree with your assessment of Anna, all of it, and it ain’t easy to play smart. She can, when she needs to. Off the top of my head, other actresses who can are Jody Foster and Elizabeth Shue. There are of course others, they’re just not on top of my head right now! Kristin Stuart, star of Twilight, to whom Anna was allegedly background material, really can’t. Neither can Jennifer Lawrence—bright, yes; remarkable? Not happening. Also, Siorsce Ronan? Hell yes. I think Anna will have a very long career, if she wants it, as a journeyman actress, especially with her relationship with the biggest name in entertainment, Disney. Do I think she could be more than a journeyman? I do; but I question that she wants that. I sense that she may want to have a life aside from stardom for herself. I could see her building up a nest egg, taking roles after reaching that goal for fun, additional funding, or, ideally, both, and enjoying her privacy and her path in life as she sees it.
