Its no surprise or news by now that the Oscars are an extremely biased event in order to help hollywood and for upshowing their political views. I really wonder if this movie is going to win for being politicaly correct. But on my opinion that Oscar shoud go to Infinity War.

But I see it as pandering to the fans of comic book films and other popular genres, not as another attempt to increase diversity in awards. Because face it, most of the big-money popular films made today star white people.
Totally agreed. I myself am against even the animated movie category.. since there are so many stinkers running up for it. And I could be wrong, but I don't remember if ever an artistic animated film winning the oscar over a commercial one

But "Best Popular Film" sounds like a desperate attempt to stay relevant, one created by people who were last relevant in 1962.

shareYeah, I think they're trying to do what they did with the Animated category, keep the whole genre out of the Best Picture category while hopefully not alienating fans of the pictures they don't want to praise too highly.
Honestly, I think this is an attempt to deal with the incredible ongoing success of Marvel Films.
The big problem is divided movies into comedy and drama. This isn't medieval England or ancient Greece!
At the minimum we need a category for sci-fi and adventure.
I dont know man... the category in which a movie fits is extremely subjective. We see so many films that a bunch of people consider to be something and a bunch the contrary.. sometimes the movie fits into like 4 genres.
