It's just a good action flick. Not worth a billion. Why do people worship Tom Cruise so much? He's good, but goodness gracious what is wrong with y'all?

No because there isn't a conspiracy theory. People just throw money at Tom Cruise movies for some reason.

Erm....there is a reason. Maybe figure out why Tom Cruise is a bankable star, his movies make money, and why Top Gun hit at the right time to sweep up at the box office.

Watch a few Youtube videos explaining, I dunno. It's been talked about ad nauseam. Have you been living under a rock this last year?

It was not about him, just look at his recent mission impossible box office numbers.

I think it is a combination of nostalgia, popularity of jingoism since Trump, and comparably lack of social agenda, e.g., Maverick's love interest wasn't even a minority.

I just watched this last night for the first time. It's a good spectacle I guess with all the flying and stuff, it's all a bit shallow and safe though some of the ones on the mission should have died, it would have gave this film a stronger emotional hit. Definitely overrated. Not a bad film but how it made nearly 1.5 billion and managed to get an 8.3 on IMDb is beyond me.

People will find someone or something to worship, you might as well let'em do it.

I don't think I would call TG:M "overrated" but it does feel like movies we've seen before. TG:M is a mix of Star Wars: ANH and the original TG movie. But this is not exactly a bad thing. It's an entertaining movie. It's probably worth watching if you just like action films or if you're a fan of the original film, the flying scenes are quite impressive. Honestly, action films are perhaps my least favorite genre and I still liked this movie.

Absolutely! People have different reasons for admiring and looking up to individuals like Tom Cruise. Whether it's his charismatic presence on screen, his dedication to performing his own stunts, or his long-standing career in the film industry, there's always something that resonates with people. And hey, while some might find the latest movie a mix of familiar elements, it's still an entertaining and action-packed film with impressive flying scenes. It just goes to show that even if action films aren't your favorite genre, there's something enjoyable about it.

I think it's overrated as well. Not a bad movie, but nowhere near the rewatchability of the first movie IMO.

The hype surrounding this movie is a bit bewildering. In many ways it is a copy of the original (with a some stuff added) which was an amusing but not a very highbrow movie to begin with. I only saw Maverick for the first time recently and it was a very underwhelming experience. Definitely an overrated film.
