The Virus makes no sense

A virus with such a high mortality rate (38%) would kill its hosts quicker before it could spread. It could still be contagious but definitely not as contagious as the film is portraying it as. A super spreader Virus like Covid for example needs to have its hosts alive in order to spread the virus.

MEV-1 makes no sense. No sense at all. This virus (high mortality rate) wouldn't become a global pandemic.

I haven't seen this since its release but weren't the pathogens very aggressive? Unlike COVID 19 , this virus spread faster and lived longer in the air.

Normally scientific thought about a movie is a good thing ... thought practically futile when you look at how brain dead most Hollywood movies are. So, it's a good thing to be skeptical and critical.

I think the pandemic science is a multivariate function. Yes, the mortality rate is one big factor, but also the R number, how transmissible it. There so is the environment, how close people are, what is their hygiene, what are the modes of transmission, and what their leaders are telling them to do!? ;-)

You may be holding this movie to an unreasonably high standard when it's point is just get people thinking. Most movies exaggeration on something for the sake of a story.

Mortality rate is only one metric which would determine whether it could cause a global pandemic. Its incubation period, basic reproduction number (as referenced in the film), and other variables, some of them subject to randomness, would also determine whether or not it could become what it became in the film

We are not talking about what would PROBABLY would happen. Maybe such a virus would have a lesser chance of spreading to the same extent as Covid. We are merely talking about what is possible. And I don't see the events depicted in the film as totally impossible. Improbable? Maybe. But that's a different discussion
