A lot of teen skin for a Christian movie!

I thought this was a pretty good movie and very inspirational and it might be debatable whether it falls into the Christian category because of the big name actors. The Christian theme is used more heavily than a lot of mainstream films which I think is good because I'm a Christian myself. Most Christian films have poor production value and the most popular actors are B list at best.

What kind of bothered me was that it seemed there was much use of sex appeal with the female characters being half naked half the time and that one scene with the girl posing in the bikini with the surfboard taking photos. You can call me old fashioned but it just seemed like the movie was sending mixed messages. I know little about Hawaii but if I'm a father of a teen girl in the future, she's not gonna be swimming around in a bikini and she's gonna learn modesty early on.

If some guy is always going on and on about how there's too much male nudity in movies, there's too many bare-chested men or too much man ass, you would start to conclude after awhile that he is a repressed homosexual. I think the same sort of thing about the guys who are always complaining about teenage girls not wearing enough clothes (especially if it's on the frickin' beach).

When females develop breasts and hips (and presumably "grow some grass on the field") they are GOING TO BE attractive to heterosexual adult males. There's nothing to be gained by denying it or repressing it or blaming the girls (or the filmmakers)for it. Instead of turning these teen girls into the "forbidden fruit", why not just ADMIT that, yeah, they can look pretty hot, but it's just too ridiculous (and in some places illegal) to pursue a girl that age once you're past your early twenties.

A lot of males (in America) have all this surplus repression on this issue, and I don't know why. All you have to do is not actually commit statutory rape. It's not necessarily that you wallow in guilt and shame about it or insist all teenage girls wear burkas when they're on the beach so they don't tempt you. . .

You do realize that this movie is about a Christian girl who lives in Hawaii and is a champion surfer, right? It would be ridiculous to show people walking around the beach and being in the water while completely covered from head to foot.

The skin you see was not shown for sexual provocation, but practicality. If you take sexuality away from that that is in you, not in the movie. Perhaps you should examine yourself a little more closely.

This was not a Christian film - it had a budget if you hadn't noticed. I see the film as more having ''religious elements'' (annoyingly inserted in certain scenes) but otherwise it was a hollywood film that featured teens in skimpy outfits.

Christian films can have budgets.

Go watch Risen. Amazing movie. Christian. $20 million budget.

They're in Hawaii and always surfing on the beach, there's going to be swimsuits all the time everywhere. It's a more normal thing there. If you see "sex appeal" from skin then maybe there's just a problem with you. Personally, I wouldn't want to wear a bikini as a Christian myself, but if other people want to, that's fine with me. Certain kinds of bathing suits I take problem with, but that was more so when I was younger that it bothered me. It honestly surprises me that so many people have the confidence to wear something that kind of looks like underwear.

This thread sparked a lot of debate, but it would be the kinda topic that would.

Athletic girls and women who surf typically wear one or two piece swimsuits and look good in them. I don't think they're concerned about how you feel about their dress habits while in the surf, even if they are Christians.
