Series Finale

Thoughts?

Or good riddance?

I watched it tonight. It's hard to believe that the Walking Dead is over now (at least the original show), kind of feels unreal. Overall I thought season 11 was a disappointment, and the finale was only slightly better than average.

***SPOILERS***

What I liked:

Rosita's scenes with Eugene were great, reminded me of the previous seasons were they had some quality emotional parts. I also thought the Daryl rescuing Judith and giving her blood was well done. The part where they left her in the recovery room and dump stuff in front of the door so walkers couldn't get in reminded me of the the first episode with Rick in a coma. I also really enjoyed seeing the montage at the end with the old characters, many who died and some who are still alive.

What I didn't like:

It just didn't feel as big as it should have been for a final episode, and they really hampered it with having all these spin offs; to me it weakens the ending we could have gotten for this show. I love the comic book and realize it won't be exactly the same (some things that are changed in the TV show I actually like better), but the comic version had a way, way better ending and time skip for the conclusion in my opinion. Also what was with the pacing in certain parts of this episode? It wasn't bad until they were getting ready to set up a trap for the walkers with the fuel barrels, and boy did that feel anticlimactic. Then it just phases into the one year later thing, and I wasn't feeling it. I mentioned this in another topic on here, but the Commonwealth is suppose to feel huge; it had around 50,000 people in it. It never felt like that in the show, ESPECIALLY this episode where you have... like a dozen people trying to get through the gate during the Pamela sequence.

I still enjoyed it because I love the Walking Dead... but ugh. I'm glad I got to see Rick and Michonne at the end, but I still think they should have been there with all their friends, especially reuniting Rick with Judith.

Agreed about the time jump. It almost felt wasted. It almost feels like they should have set up the spin-offs to take place during that one year in-between, then come back for the true end with everyone present.

I did like the happy dinner scene toward the end. Kind of reminded me of Rick's visions of them all at a picnic table.

Fans waited 11 seasons to see a proper ending with Rick involved.

The finale was good….but the fact that they didn’t give us a proper reunion showing Rick and Micchone with Judith…Daryl….Carol….Maggie, etc….is unforgivable.

reply

I get where you're coming from, but I feel like that would felt like forced fan-service, especially if the spin-offs are to be set after

reply

Agreed
Some morons here need total closure
I’m fine with open endings

reply

Totally agree with you.

The fact we don't see a reunion is so disappointing. We needed to see that after 11 seasons. Will we ever see a reunion with all the cast and Rick in these spinoffs? I highly doubt it!

So yes, it is truly unforgivable!

Three spinoffs are also far too many.

And why did you “need” to see a reunion? Did your future of watching tv depend on it? Please explain

I was of two minds. There was not enough Rick and Michonne, and really no reason for them to be there.

Most of the episode just seemed to substitute pyrotechnics for plot.

It felt like they looked around for all the props and fireworks they had not used up and came up with a way to use it all in that one episode. I was not impressed.

I had trouble buying the idea of Michonne wandering around the country looking for Rick who she has no idea is still alive or not, just a feeling, meanwhile all her family and living friends need help in Alexandria.

It's like they were going by in this season at the normal slowpoke Walking Dead pace, and then someone told them - hey, this is your last season, so they cobbled together a bunch of sentimental scenes for no point - like when Daryl wheels Judith into the hospital room and bars the door ... then minutes later he is back getting her. Then he just pops a needle into his arm and gives her blood like he knows to do that. Some of that stuff was just funny, sad funny.

Didn't like what happened to Luke and Rosita. Rosita after all that time going way back to Abraham and that gang. There is so much to this show I cannot even remember where they were when they ran across those folks.

The Negan-Maggie thing was pretty well handled I thought, and the tribute to Glenn.

I subscribed to Brit-Box the British TV streaming network, and I never realized how famous the Governor was in the UK. He is in a lot of stuff.

Michonne riding around the country alone just did not seem right -after all what happened to her when she was alone for a long time before... she was crazy. Humans are not built for that kind of separateness, especially women.
