Yes, the show is about a small section of one part of the US. But how narrow-minded to never bother for a diverse group of post-apocalyptic humans to never ask each other about...i dunno- the rest of the world? I suppose these characters are supposed to think they ARE the world?

It's just not that important to the narrow focus of this story. We can safely assume that ("off camera"), those conversations have been had.
Besides, they touched on just how widespread the epidemic was during the whole CDC story arc back in Season 1. (Or was it Season 2?)
In any case, there's a lot of stuff we just need to assume happens during the many conversations that the "camera doesn't catch"). If it became important to this specific tale being told, they'd show a conversation about it.

I'm still upset they never explored the incident that happened while Daryl, Michonne and whomever it was were in the car together and they heard voices obfuscated by static on the radio (can't remember what season). Maybe the idea was that it was someone locally (like the Terminus ppl), but I was hoping it would lead to something on a grander scale

Had it been at night on AM channel, that would have been interesting because the station could be thousands of miles away. I also wish they'd done that.

I figured rick would become a general or something. But the more the show went on the more I realized it was just satisfied to be like a "walker Texas ranger" type show. But it had that game of thrones saga feel in the first season. But now it's just a popcorn series. If this happened in real life there would be safe zones in America. If a sheriff can run Alexandria. The USA govt can get an old telegraph machine to function. It's a stupid but entertaining show at this point. Ah, safe zones like FEMA? NO Thank You. I'd be staying away from ANY governmental source.
They're just trying to survive and are assuming that any other groups are in a similar position to them. It doesn't affect their survival if there is another group in Europe for example, so they don't waste their time thinking about it.
