Saw an advanced screening

It sucks. If you've seen the trailer you've seen the movie. It's another lame raunchy R rated comedy that tries to get by completely on people swearing for jokes and lame sex and poop gags. It's one of the laziest comedies I've seen in a long time. Will Ferrell's character is just Buddy the elf but as a dog and Jamie Foxx is just obnoxious and annoying. I'm not joking when I'm saying 85% of the jokes in this come from someone swearing. If there are any positives, I will say the voice acting isn't terrible and there is one really good joke during a sequence at a fair that did make me laugh pretty hard, but otherwise it was shit,

I can answer any questions you may have.

It sounds exactly like what I expected.

It really is. I guess if you did find the trailer funny you'd find the movie funny though. I don't know many who did even though there were some people laughing loud in my screening. Still think it will be a flop though.

I found the trailer to be quite annoying. The type of humour was just vulgar and not much else. I don't find vulgarity funny unless it's maybe one or two jokes. I can't imagine seeing myself seeing an entire movie of it.

There have now been THREE separate FREE screenings near me within the last few weeks. The producers are obviously desperate to create word-of-mouth buzz to sell it.

This is a sign of a bad movie.

Are the dogs homos?

No

This is the vibe I got from the trailers. Every "big laugh" was just a dog saying "FUCK!" and that alone was supposed to be funny. The psychedelic scene looked visually interesting but how often have we seen that cliche when the writers throw in a drug trip scene? How sad is it that the people who made this, likely in their 40's+, still never matured past that 8th-grade boys lunchroom cafeteria humor? I had the same issue with Sausage Party, another film where the writers thought "a hotdog just dropped the f-bomb" was funnier than creative or clever writing.

I was excited for this movie and then it got delayed 3 months, so I've been anticipating for a long time. Finally watched it last night and you're 100% on point. The "concept" was clever, but the movie itself was not whatsoever. It was 90% dick and sex jokes. I don't mind that it was constantly cursing but if they actually balanced out the comedy and didn't just make it all about sex and dicks, it would've been funnier.

Dick jokes aren't even funny, but having a dick joke or two in a movie is *sometimes* passable, but wow did this movie overdo it.

Whoever wrote this movie needs to just go write beastiality fan-fiction and stay out of actual cinema, and let a real writer re-write the script instead.

THIS APPEARS TO BE THE WRITER'S FIRST REAL SHOT.

Dang, unfortunate to be them. Sorry but if you have one chance to prove yourself in your "breakout" film and just lazily make the script 90% dick jokes, then you get what you deserve. Dude really had one chance and blew it.

reply

Damn. I actually thought it would be good doggie movie. It WAS funny in the beginning of the trailer how that guy kept throwing dog out and driving home. And poor doggie thought it was a fun game and he had to return. And man be like: "Oh f*ck. He returned again".

Then I turned off because I only watch half trailers so they would not spoil me whole movie.

Oh bc we have so many better comedies these days that don’t involve swearing god forbid we have a rated R comedy with dogs swearing. Bro we haven’t had a good comedy in like 10 yrs.

reply

Dog comedy has always been lame/awful. The only time it's good is when the dog gets fucked up like There's Something About Mary. Them being assholes, causing problems, and doing the same annoying shit over and over to frustrate a character is the drizzling shits.
