Trying to watch this now

...and I'm pretty sure I'm losing IQ points. It's not nearly as funny as it thinks it is. Millennials irk me.

IT WAS GOOD,NOT GREAT...WAY OVERHYPED...LIKE A LOW KEY FEMALE SUPERBAD.

I don't recall liking Superbad either. In fact I've never enjoyed any film Jonah Hill is in. And now I can add his sister to that list as well. The description of this movie made me think it'd be something along the lines of Ferris Bueller's Day Off, but nope.

It takes the first 20 mins of SuperBAd and stretched it out for a full film. That fast talkin', no quit quipin' style. It was great at the start of SuperBad because it only lasted the opening then it eased into the movie.

This one never lets up for breath, always fast talkin', quip, joke, fast fast. The script writers did write some funny stuff, no doubt. But its lost because they are trying way to hard to cram everything in.

Let the jokes breath, write a scene people remember. Keep the joke spam for the sequel. i cant remember a single scene or set piece from this one.

American Pie has lots of memorable set pieces, SuperBad, Porky's had tons. Not this one.

No kids talk like that for one. Its like watching teenage actors forced to do Woody Allen impersonations of him doing a blue stand up act where he pretends hes a lesbian for a full 2 hours.

Other than that I enjoyed it but not top tier

reply

OK, that was pretty funny. I even sorta enjoyed the movie, but you're right on about the speed of delivery and how unlikely it is that teenagers would speak that way, much less incessantly. I don't know if it's a set piece really, but I liked the scene with the pizza delivery driver, but overall it felt like a lot of mismatched pieces.

It blows ... they try too hard

I was appalled at how bad it was. I was lured to it by its improbably high Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes scores with near-unanimous praise from critics. Nobody wanted to criticize it because it was written and directed by women and is female-oriented. All it really proved was that women can make garbage movies just as well as any man. I do, however, think that Beanie Feldstein shows definite talent.

reply

It's a completely overhyped & overrated by Hollyweird critics entirely because of "Starring WOMEN!", "Written & Directed by WOMAN!" & naturally of course "LESBIANISM!" That it was a complete try hard pile of garbage that nobody wanted to watch was irrelevant next to the social politics, which triggered the compulsory praise by critics.

So it wasn't just me. My wife and I gave up on it about 15 minutes in.

I was just thinking that I should give this another chance based on the recent report that director Olivia Wilde will be directing a Sony Marvel flick. Apparently, it was this movie that convinced the powers-that-be to hand her the director's chair.

Your post and this thread has confirmed my original impression.

Easy A was a better movie but this did have moments of good. The directing was great for what was the script writing. I liked the music in it the most.
