I like Mormons

I'm not a Mormon, or even religious in any way. But the way Mormons are often villainized in sensationalist tv is ridiculous. There is a Mormon temple in our town, and the neighborhoods surrounding it, occupied largely by Mormons, are clean and safe. Mormon-owned businesses can be trusted. The children of Mormons are generally more mature, more sociable, and better students than other children. So they have some odd beliefs and rituals, so what? They're not spray painting fences or blowing people up. I'm happy to have them as neighbors.

I think dislike of Mormons and peoples of religions outside of mainline Protestant Christianity stems from fear of the unknown and the selfish idea that anything that isn’t one’s own religion is wrong.

It's mostly because Mormon doctrine states that non-whites are non-white because they're descendents of the first person who was "cursed with the mark of sin" which was dark skin. Racism is literally part of their religion, no matter how they try to downplay it now in their marketing campaigns.

Yes, Mormon communities tend to be clean and safe and they personally tend to come off as nice, sweet people. But there is true darkness and evil hiding under there.
