That was really good!

I wasn't really sure what to expect, but this movie was very well one!

The ending was great!

I would have liked to know what happened to Liz and Ellie and Thomas, but I also think that would have made the ending less powerful.

Great characters, great movie, so powerful!

reply

I agree. It was well directed with a very good screenplay and terrific performances.

reply

Agreed, great film and should have been nominated for best picture in my opinion.

reply

I agree. I wonder why it was left out. The film was also shot really well.

reply

Probably because the film polarised critics and the whiny people think the film perpetuates the stereotype that fat people are depressed and always binge eat.

This isn’t just a fat person though, this a morbidly obese person who is very much close to heart failure.

I thought the film did a fantastic job of making you feel empathetic and sorry for Charlie though.

reply

Unfortunately, you may be right. There are 8 movies for best picture, it is makes no sense that The Whale is not one of them.

reply

No it was quite contrived. Felt too set up and stagey. Forcing the issue. Major let down

reply

That must be disappointing for you.

Personally, I was very affected by the daughter. As the parent of teenagers, I found it very easy to relate to both parents.

reply

I didn't like it either. I found the daughter's behavior unrealistic. Most of the movie boring. 4/10 at most for me.

reply

I don’t say this about many movies but for me it was perfect. Perfect performances, storyline, pacing, direction. I thought it was a sincere, beautiful film.

reply

Just saw it. Yes, the acting was great. You can tell it was originally a stage play, but bravo.

reply

I said to my brother while we were watching that this would work good as a play. Then at the end it said it was based on a play.
