Finally watched it to completion

Took me 3 days to complete it

This was a classic Snyder movie. Definitely better than the theatrical version but this was once again Sheep in Wolf skin. It was trying hard to be a classic when it was just another superhero movie and an average one at that.

PROS
-------
Much more coherent story
The actions and motives of the characters matched much better
Better VFX
Snyder's movies always look good (except for the action scenes)
Background score was great
The superheroes were a tad bit more relatable

CONS (but nothing unexpected)
--------------------------------------
Overdid the slow mo shots
Took forever to get to the point - felt like 4 short films stuffed into one
The choice of songs was really shitty - too pretentious. almost took me out of the movie
Action sequences felt very stale
Not enough superhero combo action moves - it was mainly one SH giving the other a jumpstart or a lift
The villains looked hilarious - Steppenwolf looked like a cross between an ugly baby and a scrotum
Weak first half

Better than the original, but that was expected with additional 2 hours of story telling time and few more millions thrown at it to improve vfx, etc.

A 6/10

Good assessment there. I’m still watching it right now, but already have to agree with pretty much all you are saying here. Agreed with the choice of songs are bad, so much cringe!

reply

Major cringe. It just felt like they are "trying to be so cool"

Problem is you stop being cool the moment you try to be cool

LIKE TO GROWN MEN SAYING CRINGE?🤔

reply

Lol. That's all you got?

reply

LOL?...LOL.

How can songs be pretentious? lol. Please people, if you don't know how to use the word...don't use it.

reply

Trigger Alert!

Where does it say songs were pretentious? The choice of the songs was though - trying to portray some depth and emotion which clearly was missing from the movie

You edited it. You had used "pretentious songs" in your original post. Still, using the word "pretentious" the way you used it in the edited version is still questionable. People use the word "pretentious" too much in film reviews, because they can't explain what it is that they didn't like about the film. Instead of giving valid examples, they run to that word and feel that it explains why they didn't like the movie or part of it. It is a lazy way to critique something. Anyhow, I am not big on movies using songs like that anyway; but there are some exceptions. I thought the music in Baby Driver really worked well with the story. It definitely made the movie more enjoyable.

Can you please delete your post? The word "trigger" is very offensive. Reminds me too much of the unnecessary gun violence in our cities. Please edit your post and say "content note"

Longer than theatrical but way better. Hard to watch in one go but would have worked as a six part mini series.

I think I am one of the only people that preferred Steppenwolf's old look. He looks noticeably more fake this time around, but is a better character. An ugly baby and a scrotum, LOL?!

I agree with a lot of what you said, but don't think his movies always look good. The efffects are improved, but his movies generally have a fake feel and it takes you right out of them. It creates those stale action sequences. The physics is all wrong. It takes the tension out of a scene when something looks fake and easy and so many of the fights involving Superman or other similarly strong characters look fake as hell - and that is something that goes all the way back to MoS.

reply

Fair point. I will say that the trailers of his movies always look great visually and definitely pique my interest when they come out. I always ended up giving him the benefit of the doubt, that he will deliver something spectacular based on the trailer. And almost always, it ends up disappointing me. Final nail was BvS - so fortunately I did not have any expectations from JL or SnyderCut, and even then those movies disappointed to an extent.

Tried watching his latest zombie movie because I got suckered in by an interesting trailer. Stopped around the 30 min mark because the obvious snyder flaws were extremely visible and the much hyped opening sequence was just bland AF
