Why are people anticipating this film to be like this generations The Godfather or something?

I know this is going to trigger many DC/Snyder fans but I just don't get the hype around this film.

The trailers honestly don't look that great at all. They're just filled with fake CGI shots/characters here and there. The music also doesn't fit in at all and it's just so out of place when trying to persuade to us that this will be a much "darker" film. I also have no idea what this film is about and what its going for in terms of its story. That 4 hr runtime is just ridiculous and whats with that social media like aspect ratio?

reply

Because there's a handful of remaining DC fans out there that need their health and their money drained with more nihilistic CGI.

reply

"and their money"? Lol, how? No cinema release so ...

reply

Snyder isn't even making any money from Warner Bros. so I really don't understand the intention for him making this film. It's probably more of a professional courtesy by him for his fans which is nice and all since he is not getting paid by Warner Brothers but I really think this film is just being developed just to gain more HBO Max subscribers and Snyder may probably get some sort of profit from the views this film will get but other than that, this film was pretty unnecessary.

reply

unless it manages to be a decent movie.

reply

Yeah. If it manages to be somewhat good but I honestly have very low expectations for it. The trailers just look bland and 4 hrs is just so not necessary.

reply

I see where you're coming from but I'll disagree. Snyder is a director and he had a vision for this movie - essentially the end of a trilogy with Man of Steel and BVS.

Due to his daughter's suicide and studio interference, his vision was destroyed and only part of his movie was really made. Reports vary, but this one is a stinger: "Whedon added nearly 80 new pages to the script, and Wagner estimates that Whedon's cut uses only about 10% of the footage that Snyder shot. Composer Tom Holkenborg completed his film score before being replaced by Danny Elfman halfway through post-production."

So unnecessary? To some. To tons of fans it's a huge thing because we want to see more of this universe through Snyder's actual vision, not what Warner Bros and Whedon slapped together.

I actually think it's a great, unique opportunity you rarely see. I'm certainly curious to see how different it is going to end up being. Is it going to just fill in a couple scenes or be a whole new film? It's not going to cost me a cent to find out either way.

reply

Yes and I actually sympathize for the guy since he was in a scenario like that. His daughters suicide and the studio interference has had a major impact on the final theatrical cut of this film which I didn't think was good at all and yes, Whedon did mess a lot of that up. It makes sense why he would want to release the version he intended to. However, due to the fact that Whedon intended to cut out that 80% of footage Snyder shot really says to me that Snyders original cut isn't very good. Whedon is actually a good director so I am sure he had a good intention for cutting all of that out however it wasn't executed very well at all and I am sure the cut Snyder will release will be better than the theatrical but I don't think it will be as great as many anticipate it will be.

It's a good opportunity for him to release his vision of this film but I think most of it has to do with attracting more HBO Max subscribers. That may be one of the reasons why Warner Bros is letting him release his cut now.

reply

Oh, I concur with you. It's all about making money from the studio side - they don't care about vision or redemption but a bottom line. Makes total sense to me.

I'm sure they had a team of analysts figure out if A)there was money to be made, B)how much budget to give to assume a solid ROI, and B)whether releasing it in theaters or on HBOMax would be more beneficial.

They factor in x number of subscribers (who knows how much they think a subscriber is worth), DVD sales, and whatever else against the $70 million. I was an English major so I couldn't tell you the math.

reply

Yes exactly. I just see this as more of a publicity stunt for Warner Brother's to let Snyder release this film on HBO Max just to gain subscribers. I will admit, that's a pretty clever way to gain more subs since HBO Max is a brand new service so yeah, they will do whatever to propel the number of subscribers. They are aware that fans have been eager for his cut of this film so that is why they gave Snyder the opportunity.

reply

His fans are basically butthurt marvel pisses all over dceu, they pretend to like the films to save face

reply

I see these films as more of style over substance. DC/Snyder fans and Snyder himself are just more about certain aspects like fan service, cool set pieces, and vfx but with a lack of a great script and structure. I just feel like people are wasting their time having so much high expectations for this film when there are many other films coming out this year that looks much better than this such as No Time to Die, Dune, Last Night in Soho, and many more.

reply

I would disagree with your statement. Watchmen has a better script and more substance than all marvel movies, combined. And i would say that Sucker Punch is full of substance but the script might not be too in your face so for some is a let down, myself i just loved it.

Btw, I plan to watch most of the other movies as well, there are enough days in a year, I'm not limited to 1-2 movies/year so if I want to watch JLSC doesn't mean that i will not be able to watch Dune. Personally I'm not that excited about JB movies ...

reply

I will say Watchmen is one of the better Snyder films but saying it has a better script than all Marvel films combined is a major stretch. I don't think every single Marvel flick is great. Honestly I only love maybe about 6 or 7 of those films out of the 22 films Marvel has developed I think. Marvel films like Winter Soldier had a great script and one of the best comic book film story's. It has flaws such as the cinematography and the color grading which looks pretty ugly I have to admit and that is one of the few things DC actually does better than Marvel. But Watchmen is certainly not better than all Marvel films combines. I think it is better than some MCU flicks but certainly not combined.

I understand your perspective on Sucker Punch. I get that it's not trying to be the next masterpiece and it's just trying to be a more loosened up type of film but a somewhat decent script would be nice.

I'm also not saying that just because people are looking forward to this film aren't looking forward for anything else. I'm just saying that those other films that I listed should honestly receive way more anticipation than this because they actually look great. I will still see this film but I gotta say, I am not too optimistic about it.

reply

I've noticed hardcore Zack Snyder fans are just dumb edgelords who think movies should look like XBox games and have XBox game dialogue.

reply

Yeah. I don't know what people see in these films. These are very stylistic set pieces with some cool vfx/shots featuring very popular characters but what about a great story. That should be the main priority in any sort of film.

reply

this generations Godfather/Apocalypse Now/Empire/BladeRunner/Aliens/T2/Matrix

reply

I think it's more interesting that so many fans pushed for this for so long that the studio actually gave in and then gave Snyder $30 million more towards the project on top of it.

So they give Snyder back the reins along with more money and then they are getting close to release and they decide to announce that they are rebooting Superman, just crazy. What if, and I don't think there really is much chance of this happening at all, somehow this film actually ends up being good? You kind of have to stick with this Superman don't you?

reply

It doesn't depend on the quality of the film to determine if you are going to bring back Cavil as Superman or not. Same goes for any other character for any other franchise. It depends on the actors contract and the continutiy elements in script for that certain character for future installments. As far as I know, Cavil is not returning to this franchise and will instead do a Superman reboot with a new actor.
