Would this movie be made today?

I feel a lot has changed since this movie was made 15 years ago.

It could be made but the Clint character would have to be a black guy and the hoodlums would need to be white. That way the black guy could talk freely about how bad society has become and how it is all falling apart.

reply

Plus, there would have to be a George Floyd type of scene in the movie to hammer it home

reply

Yep. They would make the GF character go on some kind of vigilante crusade even though the GF character is a thug and deserved what he got.

I don't find this movie that controversial. Yes, it has a lot of politically incorrect stuff, but its message in the end is that Walt redeems himself by looking past his racial prejudices. Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight were movies in more recent times that had racism in them, so it's okay to depict it as long as it isn't endorsed. Not to mention that South Park is still on the air and just as politically incorrect as ever.

IMHO, it's much more questionable that American History X would get made today than Gran Torino.

reply

No one and I mean, NO ONE goes unscathed on SOUTH PARK.. It's open season on that cartoon

reply

Oh my God, probably not and if it were, they'd definitely boycott it.. Different world 15 Years earlier for sure

reply

No. Self appointed PC Police would be all over it.

reply

hopefully not. not because its offensive, its just embarrassingly lazy.

everyone is such a simplistic caricature. the "im not racist i just hate everyone" isnt really a defence to drop slurs..... i have no problem with slurs in films if used for a good reason (see Django unchained). here its just gratuitous and doesnt elevate the film.

its like "Clint we get it, you feel minorities are gangbangers and a problem"

reply

Horseshit. The film has good minorities and evil ones, just like in real life, and it’s about a racist old guy overcoming his prejudices.

It’s also extremely highly rated and well loved. Nobody outside your small, nasty woke cult holds your ridiculous opinion.
