Best movie of the year in my book.

A prequel done properly. It's a shame it's not doing well in the box office

So I have to ask. What other movies have you seen this year?

reply

Dune 2, Hitman, Fall guy, Monkey man. Civil War and more.

reply

Dune 2 is a masterpiece. Flopiosa is not fit to shine it's shoes!

reply

To each his own. Dune 2 was really good but I think Furiosa is the better film.

reply

So you saw the film. I did like first 45 minutes with the child Furiosa and Dementus. But that’s it.

reply

Um.... so far I guess I'd agree. I didn't see the new Planet of the Apes yet. Or that one Godzilla movie everybody loved. This was not so very great and it was much worse on second viewing. But it's still miles ahead of the other new releases. (I especially hated Dune 2 and somewhat enjoyed the first one.)

reply

Worse upon rewatch? I actually had the opposite result. To me it got better on the second viewing.

reply

It was better and worse. I definitely noticed things I didn't before. But the surprise of some of the dialog, actions and twists was gone. Which left the film to rely solely on the spectacle and story, and the story is pretty lite. Oddly, I found the Bullet Farm battle much more rewarding the second time around, and didn't enjoy the Stowaway sequence much at all. Which was opposite my first viewing. The ending however hit much better. Once I accepted what it was, it played pretty good. I was hoping it would look better in a different theater, but it did not. I'm pretty sure they shot this in a high frame rate, and coupled with the occasional use of sped up action, it looks almost comical.

Mad Max to me is more heavy on character and spectacle than it is story. That doesn't bother me so long as the characters are compelling and the spectacle is fun. I personally love how Furiosa is a properly structured character. I also like how they didn't try to clone Fury Road.

reply

I loved the first half of the movie as much as I did the first time. The wheels come off the bus a little when they start connecting things up with Fury Road. This is sort of an aside, but god damn, I absolutely loved Scrotus the second time around. This is like the one dude who had his head screwed on right. And there's a line of dialog in there somewhere where they refer to them as those crazy brothers or something. Like these two hellspawns are well known. I didn't catch that the first time around.

My favorite thing about Fury Road was the War Boys and in this flick, they're kind of treated like Stormtroopers. Just disposable casualties. That was a little disappointing. We have the ABSOLUTELY EPIC introduction of the War Boys when foolhardy Dementus thinks he's gonna stroll into the Citadel and Immortan Joe flexes. And after that, just people blowing up in the background. After the front and center treatment they had in Fury Road, that was kind of a bummer.

The People Eater also shown as kind of a big deal. Very cool. And I caught a line of dialog this time that seemed to imply "the artist" leader of Gastown was actually Joe's brother?

reply

I've seen three great movies this year. Furiosa, Civil War and Dune 2. I loved them all, but I have a feeling that I'll be rewatching Furiosa much more than the others.

reply

Yep my feelings exactly.

reply

It is a damn shame. I thought it was very good, not as good as Fury Road. I didn't think it was a good idea to do a prequel. They shouldn't do another prequel, but if they did I'd see it anyway. The general public got this one wrong.

reply

Matching Fury Road is a tall task. I love that it didn't try to clone it.

reply

I second that feeling.

Welcome to the club.

I was really surprised how much I liked Furiosa. I haven’t seen a lot of new stuff in the theater this year, but this surpassed my expectations, which admittedly were pretty low.
