Why why why???

On the subject of a possible upcoming second Freddy reboot, I have to ask this of the first reboot. WHY was so much effort spent rebooting this thing, yet making so few changes? I'm not against a good reboot. I am against replicating the original and CALLING it a reboot. I loved the concept of Freddy, and the whole "die in your dream" thing. But why spend so much time and money REPLICATING what we already know? They carbon copied so many elements from the original movies, it just felt like a lame attempt.

Freddy doesn't HAVE to be a wise cracking blister in a Christmas sweater. He can be anything. I personally would like to see something darker and more menacing. Scare the hell out of us. That's what we're there for.

The original has it right Freddy is a wide cracking killer who enjoys his work no more reboots please

This was a real waste of time indeed!
I dont mind remakes either sometimes...i really loved the Evil Dead remake...did you see it and like it?

Delayed response: As far as reboots go, Evil Dead is hands down the best I've seen. The original had camp factor to begin with. Obviously I'm, not a big fan of campy/humor in horror movies, but this reboot (Evil Dead) went straight for the jugular, good creepy fuck-you-up kind of horror. Good stuff.

No worry about the delay
I'm always around👍

Yes, ED was probably my favorite remake
I loved Ash and the original films ( they were awesome) but wow, this one went right for the throat
It was scarier and very slickly produced...the face cutting scene nearly killed me😱
The Evil Dead remake was pretty much a perfect horror show!

I feel that a new series won't work, simply due to nostalgia. people are not gonna accept a grim ANOES with a sinister Freddy. which is hella ironic since that's what the original Freddy was.

reply

Good point...it WOULD be very tough to make it scarier than the original
Are we out of writers..?

IMO, Freddy was scary in the original because Robert England was able to turn in a great performance with very little dialogue. His facial expressions, particularly the creepy way he leers at Nancy, Tina, Rod, ect. are the foundation for a truly effective villain.

No offense to Jackie Earl Haley, but his look just didn't have the same quality.

For anyone that doesn't know the story of how Wes Craven (R.I.P.) came up with Freddy Krueger:

One night, when he was a young man, he heard some noise coming from the alley outside his window. When he went to look, he saw a homeless looking guy in the alley. The guy looked up at him with this burned twisted looking face, leering at him. He quickly moved away and waited a minute, but when he looked again, the guy was still there looking up at him.

That is some creepy shit! I'm betting Wes didn't go to sleep that night, and maybe the night after as well, and I don't blame him.

That's the kind of scary you need though, if you want to be successful with a remake. Stay true to the spirit that the original had.

You are correct that’s what started the idea of Freddy but the main idea came from an article he read.
