Clark Gable?

Whoa, that was a major clue.

Cobel's body houses a much older consciousness.

reply

Yep. A clue that she is lonely lady spending her evenings watching TCM.

reply

That's an absurd interpretation.

I am surprised someone like you even watches the show.

reply

Sure. Keep following the Clark Gable lead. I'm curious what you will unravel. Keep us posted.

reply

We will be shown soon enough.

reply

What year do you think it is

reply

You mean in Cobel's mind?

I think it might be Kier body-hopping, or something along those lines.

Either way, that consciousness has to be at least 100 years old.

reply

In the new episode briefly could be seen a label with Cobel's name and "DOB: 3-17-44"

I thought that the movie takes place nowadays because of the smartphones, but now I'm confused. She can't be that old.

reply

I was thinking around 2006 or 2007 because of the flip phones. I can’t remember if we saw smartphones. But I guess if it was say 2012, that’d put her around 68, which might not be far off

reply

Nope. I rechecked. They use smart phones and look pretty recent models. Only Petey used old flip phone. This is what you buy if you are paranoid about being tracked.

reply

The name on it was Charlotte Cobel. Not Harmony.

reply

Then must be her mother or something.

reply

what was said about clark gable?

reply

In episode 7 Cobel said to Mark's sister, "I don't think I'd remember even Clark Gable if I'd just given birth".

Are you watching the show?

reply

this is a show?

reply

Oh, you are trolling me.

Never mind then.

reply

I just rewatched the scene. Interesting line indeed.

reply

I just took it as she would be so out-of-it from giving birth that she wouldn't even recognize Clark Gables face (who is known for being handsome and with an easily recognizable face and pencil-thin mustache). It was an attempt at humor. I think you are reading WAYYY too much into that line.

When is it talking place? Hard to say. It feels like ~2000. But it doesn't have to follow our rules of what we think is current or not either.

reply

I really don't think that I am. There is no way Clark Gable would be at the forefront of anyone's mind like that NOW. No one would cite him of all people as an example.

reply

Anyone born in 1944 (as someone mentioned above) would certainly be aware of Clark Gable. "Gone with the Wind" is like that age-groups masterpiece.

reply

I feel like any explanation I try would be a waste of time in your case, so never mind.

reply

After the finale your theory seems even more idiotic and baseless. Clark Gable is simply a well-known face to many millions of people even to this day. It’s no more than that.

reply

Seriously, I am not convinced I should waste any time on you - based on the questions you've been asking you don't seem to understand the series at all.

That said:

1) far from everything has been answered in the finale. We still have no idea what Lumon is, what it does, and what principles it was founded on.
And nothing specifically about Cobel has been explained at all.
Seriously, the very fact that you believe the finale definitively resolved everything just demonstrates how little you actually comprehend.

2) you must have missed the phrase "for my revolving" uttered by Helly's father. If anything, this phrase proves that the body-hopping theory (and I can't credit only myself with it) is on the right track.

reply

Everyone just chill and be respectful. Cobel is definitely being portrayed as an "odd duck", unstable and the Clark Gable reference helps reinforce that. But I think there is something deeper that is happening. Even Irv's car is from the 1970/80's. There definitely could be some time-travel/warping involved. There's much we don't know.

As for next season, I hope we get some answers and they're creative and crazy and thought provoking - and not just another 8-season soap opera that keeps stringing people along..

reply

Ben Stiller said they have enough material for four seasons.

I am sure he is interested in making a quality show.
