Ok why do all these films do this?

So no one says “troll” at the first meeting of the leaders because they don’t want to sound insane. Then someone says “troll” and they laugh and scoff. THEN they get tons of video footage of the troll itself, BUT STILL the leaders are scoffing and frowning at the word “troll”.

Why do they always drag on skepticism too long?

the same thing happen with a zombie movie... they never use the word zombie, they always refer to them as the infected, the walkers, the undead...

reply

I think that started in the Romero films but they are called zombies once in Dawn. Perhaps the idea is in a zombie universe zombies don't exist already in fiction, so they would not be familiar with the term. It makes sense because if everyone was familiar with what zombies are from fiction there wouldn't be the setup of figuring out what the creatures were or how they spread infection.

reply

what if real zombies weren't the same as fiction zombies

reply

They wouldn't call them zombies because they didn't act or look like the fiction zombies. So it is possible the term zombie and vampire and werewolf exist in these films but they wouldn't call them that because it's not accurate to what the creatures are I guess.

reply

I thought your belief was that iif zombies existed in in universe fiction they could skip over story steps

reply

Ok let's say zombies existed in Night of the Living Dead's Universe, in their fiction and it was the same as our reality version of zombies "in our fiction". You'd be correct there, would not be a need for the characters to spend time figuring out how people turned or how to kill them and they'd call them zombies.
But if what the people in Night of the Living Dead's universe knew as "zombies" were more like vampires then they would not call the ghouls by the name of zombies because to them, zombies do what vampires do.

Yeah, we turned this off before reaching the half way point I think.

The daughter was literally standing in a MASSIVE FOOTPRINT. They then fly in a helicopter overhead looking at the MASSIVE FOOTPRINTS.

Then they (daughter and army dudes in tow) turn up at her father's place and he says it's a troll and they all start laughing and she's pleading with him to show reason! 😂

reply

Way to stick with it

reply

Because, face it, humans are not used to changing our beliefs,

rational people retain skepticism and will be skeptical of evidence that seems to contradict a strongly held belief

Would you be happy with a few high definition photos of big foot to believe in it?

Given how easy it is to trick people with deepfakes,

Exceptional claims require exceptional evidence and a video isn't that exceptional in terms of evidence

reply

That is a sad state of affairs. That line of militant skepticism could cast doubt on almost anything.

FEMA Official: Hurricane, what hurricane? Prove it.
Meteorologist: Well, here are the satellite images and footage of it hitting the Bahamas 2 hours ago…
FEMA Official: Deep fakes!!! Liar! You have an agenda, get lost…

reply

But a hurricane is not an exceptional claim they happen all the time and the standard of evidence is well established

I can see old generals thinking that someone is trying to mvke a fool of them so they have to retire

your post reminds me of so-called experts talking about the dangers of AI and the machines attacking humans and taking over Earth, and all of them trying to sound intelligent by not mentioning Terminator.
