but Eastwood's character would be taking a pretty big gamble by not getting the hell out of dodge. Especially considering the amount of money he got from the robbery, the amount of dead bodies, and for someone as careful and greedy as himself it just seemed a little out of character.
Ehh, he was a bit arrogant and reckless (hence why he purchased the new flat and $28,000 motorcycle even after Serge told him not to).
Remember, he was the one who set in motion the whole chain of events involving Jason Statham's character by being trigger happy. Had that not happened, they actually would have managed to get away with the heist scot free (with the exception of the one black guy getting shot by the guards in the weapon's locker).
Besides, with all that money where exactly was he going to go right after the heist? He would have to rent a large enough van to put all the money inside, and that would actually make him more suspicious than not, because if a day or two later his face was plastered all over the media, any hotel he went to (because he certainly couldn't fly with all that cash) would make him very easy to identify.
He also couldn't head to the border right away either, since they would be on the lookout for him.
Technically, his best bet would be to change his appearance, and lay especially low for a couple of months before moving the cash anywhere. Also, he would have to get the cash cleaned, which would take even longer. So him going back to his apartment to wait it out wasn't such a bad idea.
You are right, though, that if the landlord DID rat him out then the whole gig was up. But there wasn't really anything he could have done at that point anyway, because as you said once the bodies were identified and they talked to the Serge's wife, he would have been goosed.
