Stupidest criminal on the planet(spoiler)

So the guy is the lone survivor from his crews heist and gets away with a shit ton of cash, and instead of beating feet and getting out of town immediately, he just goes home to take a shower and relax in a comfy robe???

His heist crew was a group of known friends and he just happens to be the only one not on a slab.
Even if Stratham didn't somehow resurrect himself to get revenge, the cops and probably FBI would have been beating his door down in a matter of hours!

I thought that was stupid also. All the dead robbers were very good friends and were all part of the same platoon. The police would have the house surrounded within 24 hours or less.

reply

Did you not pay attention to the part where he said the flat was registered under a different name? Why would the police be surrounding the house of a random guy less than 24 hours later?

reply

Paid attention just fine. Does not matter if it is under another name. You do realize they were close friends who constantly were hanging around each other, going to their houses, well recognized by the wives and kids. They were even in the same platoon. So, yes the wife of Jeffrey Donovan (the Sergeant) would be able to recognize and point out Eastwood's character immediately and his picture would be all over the news. And who ever sold and had Eastwood do the paperwork would have reported him and his apartment would have been surrounded. So the fake name does nothing.

They'd only know who the Serge was after identifying the body. They had no ID on them, remember? So how would they know to instantly go to the Serge's house?

That would be done after doing a DNA/facial recognition scan, which probably wouldn't be done until later that night or the next day, after forensic clean-up of the scene.

His picture would only be on the news AFTER all the bodies were identified and AFTER he had been called a suspect. Which again, wouldn't happen until they confirmed his identity, which wouldn't happen until they talked to the wife, which wouldn't happen until after they confirmed the identity of the Serge's body.

That's assuming a couple of things:

1) That the person watched the news regularly and would have instantly identified him by the time his face did appear on the news.

2) That the person who sold him the apartment had the scruples to turn over Eastwood's character, which would mean they would also have to hand back the money he used to pay for the apartment.

3) That the person would even remember his face and match it with the fake name he gave them. Also, given that people have a hard time remembering certain faces, it's a long shot that the person who sold him the flat under his fake name would remember his face. Here's the study:

Fair enough, but Eastwood's character would be taking a pretty big gamble by not getting the hell out of dodge.
Especially considering the amount of money he got from the robbery, the amount of dead bodies, and for someone as careful and greedy as himself it just seemed a little out of character. Despite the some of the issues I had with the movie, I think it is very entertaining and a refreshing change of pace for Guy Richie. Much darker than his original work.

Ehh, he was a bit arrogant and reckless (hence why he purchased the new flat and $28,000 motorcycle even after Serge told him not to).

Remember, he was the one who set in motion the whole chain of events involving Jason Statham's character by being trigger happy. Had that not happened, they actually would have managed to get away with the heist scot free (with the exception of the one black guy getting shot by the guards in the weapon's locker).

Besides, with all that money where exactly was he going to go right after the heist? He would have to rent a large enough van to put all the money inside, and that would actually make him more suspicious than not, because if a day or two later his face was plastered all over the media, any hotel he went to (because he certainly couldn't fly with all that cash) would make him very easy to identify.

He also couldn't head to the border right away either, since they would be on the lookout for him.

Technically, his best bet would be to change his appearance, and lay especially low for a couple of months before moving the cash anywhere. Also, he would have to get the cash cleaned, which would take even longer. So him going back to his apartment to wait it out wasn't such a bad idea.

You are right, though, that if the landlord DID rat him out then the whole gig was up. But there wasn't really anything he could have done at that point anyway, because as you said once the bodies were identified and they talked to the Serge's wife, he would have been goosed.

reply

It was shown multiple times in the movie he wasnt good at "laying low".

This movie had several problems and you hit on a big one. A robbery and multiple murder scene of this magnitude would have seized the entire country’s media attention. Law enforcement would’ve been swarming like hornets. The cops would have immediately got the identities of the dead criminals, made the Army connection and there would have been zero time to lounge around in a bathrobe sipping brandy

reply

Nah, he had the flat in a different name. Unless they figured out what his alternate name was, they wouldn't have known.

He didn't resurrect himself. He was shot in the leg and in the shoulder by a Glock and later an MP9, both of which use 9mm rounds. Unless he got hit in an artery, he would have survived just fine, as most people do (despite what the media says).

The MP9 rounds were mostly absorbed by the body armor, but he was still in shock from the shotgun blast to the armored helmet, so he just stayed on the ground to get his senses back (probably had a concussion, too). But the 9mm rounds in a non-vital area wouldn't have killed him.

reply

He did pretty much resurrect himself. He was shot nearly point blank in the leg and barely even flinched. If that happened to a normal person, they would have collapsed on the ground in agony trying to put pressure on the wound. Even if he was hit in a non vital area, he is not going to be up and about in 24 hours with barely a limp.

He was limping, though. He limped his way over to Scott Eastwood's character in the apartment, and he limped his way out of the door toward the car.

He did pretty much resurrect himself.

Looked like he had his old gang buddies pick him and patch him up and head to Eastwood's apartment.

Okay, yeah he was pretty much in Terminator mode there. I could possibly make the excuse that he was numb from the shock of the shotgun blast to the head.

Youd be surprised what adrenaline can do to you. There were stories of soldiers getting multiple shot wounds and continuing on pushing the attack. there was this famous case caught on security camera where robbers shot a civvie in a store robbery and the guy tried to walk away afterwards only realizing something was wrong when the bloodloss resulted in sleepiness. Good thing the medics got there on time and he got to tell them what happened.
