Near the end, when Peter goes into the restaurant... (SPOILERS)

And sees MJ and Ned, and then decides not to read the "My name is Peter Parker" speech he wrote to get them to remember him, and he leaves...

Do you think he looked at them and thought "Wait a minute. I have a chance for a fresh start here. Why the hell do I want these two losers back in my life again? Now I can get an attractive girlfriend who isn't a total depressive, and a best buddy who isn't an obese nerd!"

reply

No.

It would take a real dumb ass to imagine that he would think something like that.

Mary Jane and Harry Osborn had lives and minds of their own. (Even in school.)

Michelle and Ned are geeky kids orbiting around Peter’s life and his emotions. (That random girlfriend in the second movie felt like a joke.)

Yeah, different feel. Felt like because they knew him as the cool kid they wanted to hang around him as much as possible to also get the attention (not sure if that was the same in Far From Home). Sorta like fake friends in a way. The way they acted towards him even with their memories wiped speaks volumes of a lack of interest towards him. If he weren't Spider-Man I don't think they would've paid any attention to him let alone 'hang'.

It was because he saw she was wearing the necklace he gave her.

He figured she'd figure it out herself via the broken necklace. It's a nice metaphor for their broken situation...
