“You're from Queens, you help the poor. I thought you might be Black”

I know he's making a reference to Miles Morales but really? Is he making the assumption that White's won't help poor people or are poor themselves?

It was just a joke, but it did feel refreshing, like something more from the era of Sanford an Sons than 2021.

For just a joke Electro sure seemed serious about it :P. I bet he wishes he was multiversed into the Spiderverse instead of Tom Holland's.

Cobra Kai Fans Have Cast The Perfect Miles Morales For The MCU

https://www.looper.com/738319/cobra-kai-fans-have-cast-the-perfect-miles-morales-for-the-mcu/

One Twitter user, with the handle @SPIDEYJUPE, posted "kenny is giving me major miles morales vibes" along with photos of "Cobra Kai" actor Dallas Dupree Young and Miles Morales as he appeared in "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse." That Tweet was liked more than 850 times. User @GerryMcBride similarly wrote, "We're watching the new season of Cobra Kai and the kid who plays Kenny is an absolute shoe-in to play Miles Morales if Sony go there with the next Spidey movie. He's deadly," to the tune of 40+ likes. Users like @SimGuruArvin and @razkaii, among others, tweeted similar sentiments.

Starting in "Cobra Kai" Season 4, Young portrays a junior high student named Kenny Payne. Upon his introduction, Kenny is a little dorky — spending free time on video games or dancing to music on his headphones in public, oblivious to his surroundings — but he's also confident and big-hearted in his own way. In their Tweet arguing that Young would be right for the Miles Morales role, user @MarshallMC17 shared a gif from "Into the Spider-Verse" in which Miles dances to music coming from a pair of headphones, presumably likening Kenny's behavior in "Cobra Kai" to this particular moment.

Whether or not Young does end up as the MCU's Miles Morales, of course, depends on a multitude of factors. At the very least, many "Cobra Kai" fans seem to be in agreement that he would be well suited to the role.

It was a joke. He was hoping to have a black superhero as he is black and was hoping for some representation.

reply

Its a lot simpler than that. Electro is just a racist who hates white people.

reply

I don't recall anything in his backstory or behavior to suggest this.

Read the title of the post again.

In other words, you have nothing to back up your idiotic statement. Got it.

“You're from Queens, you help the poor. I thought you might be Black”

reply

Even by 2022's ridiculous standards, that isn't remotely racist. It's called humor.

Somewhere Richard Pryor is turning in his grave...

His assumption that someone is black because they're from queens and help the poor is funny? How does it even make sense? The major ethnic groups in Queens are Latino, Asian, and White.

I don't get what the joke is

reply

The characters quote itself backs up my statement.

reply

It's called humor. There's nothing remotely racist about it. But like they say, someone actively looking for racism will find it everywhere they look.

reply

A statement made entirely seriuosly in a characters "last words" moment is not a joke. And yes, humour can indeed be racist too.

reply

Sure, humor can be racist, but that joke wasn't.
