Why is Dr. Strange being a dick?

He's been given great power with no responsibility where he goes saying (paraphrasing), "Hey Peter, I can help you make people forget about your identity" as he's altering the memories of others. He's so selfish as well in What If...? that he eventually turns evil with his alter ego. They should take away his powers and exile him. He's not fit to hold such powers or do favors for bros that can put people in harms way.

MCU Strange is a lot like Tony Stark. He's brilliant and talented but cocky and reckless as well.

I'm told the comic version is the same: he's often just fixing problems that he created himself by messing around with magic.

All the more to TAKE AWAY HIS POWERS! Doesn't he become sorcerer supreme or something and is one of the most powerful MCU characters during Beyonders? Or was that Dr. Doom?

reply

When you are making movies that are on the PG end of PG-13, you need something to convince the man-children who pay for your movies that they are NOT stunted man-children

Sarcasm is how teenage girls assert their maturity, so it's good enough for MCU protagonists

I see we have a chronic case of butt-hurt here.

reply

He's like neutral DR.DOOM.

reply

Yeah this was one of the weakest points of the movie, basically because the plot needed him to be that way. The film got rewritten because of Covid and Doctor Strange 2 was originally supposed to come out before this movie, so we should cut them some slack.

reply

I got the impression Strange really, really hates kids.
