Shocking doesn't mean good.

Was it really necessary to kill off another dragon? They are now going for shock, amateurishly, not for story.

Isn't an example of something happening in volatile environments that Dany traverses? The other dragon was killed - also speared - north of the Wall because it was exposed to a dangerous unpredictable situation, moreso than Dany realised or was aware of at the time. Now, a second dragon has been killed by an unexpected attack from the enemy as they approached a southern location which happened to be homebase.

reply

You're right, but the Night King was a very powerful magical being who threw that spear in the middle of a crazy battle that distracted the dragons.

Compare that to an entire fleet of ships with giant kraken banners somehow being able to sneak up on airborne dragons in broad daylight. Those ships should have been spotted from the air at a distance of miles away. Then Euron is able to bullseye Rhaegal with one shot -- a moving target from a moving ship.

It's a fairly absurd situation that the writers are asking everyone to accept.

reply

I think the ships were anchored in a position shielded from view by high cliffs and easily detectable from persons travelling south along the coast to Dragonstone.

You make some good arguments though that are hard to refute.

reply

The sails were out the moment the dragon was killed. So it was fairly impossible not to see them shortly before the dragon was killed.

reply

Well, how many times are they going to use Euron's fleet appearing out of thin air to ambush and decimate them? This is what, three times? When is Dany going to learn her lesson about scouting for enemies? Particularly this time in broad daylight when they had two fucking scouts flying between 500 and 1000 feet in the air, and they still were taken completely by surprise. Not to mention scoring a hit against a flying dragon at extreme range from a ballista being moved around by waves would have been virtually impossible, but they somehow managed two hits, including a head shot.

How about everyone teleporting around? Eurons fleet teleports and apparently has some cloaking technology. Dany's fleet can teleport, and the ground forces that took the Kingsroad south by foot can definitely teleport because that should have taken months, yet they wer at King's Landing when Dany was .

There was a time GoT paid a little more attention to details like this. They wanted to make the odds appear more even to create suspense, I get that, but make it a little believable. Don't need to be GRRM to do that

reply

Good points.

It may have been a fairly settled sea inlet where the surface was calm and allowing some degree of accuracy.

reply

Yeah it's annoying. Euron has been a latecomer to the show but in a couple of seasons it's as if he is more magical and powerful than the Night King was. Shame they restricted the Night King's teleporting abilities next to practically every other character, else he surely would have wiped out the living.

reply

The series is approaching it's Lost style finale, so... does it really matter? ((

reply

Or......she could have attacked the ships from behind. If I recall, all the spears were mounted on the front of the ships, so the masts would have provided cover for a rear attack. One pass and most the ships would have been burning wrecks.

reply

Dont you know ... Euron has super powered ships which can do a 180 degree turn within the blink of an eye

All hail Euron - the savior
