you have to be childlike to watch this

I outgrew fantasy when I was a kid

I suppose it could seem that way if you don't see all the metaphors..
Everything in it is allegorical to the world around us..

reply

Wow you're such a badass.

reply

I will take that as a compliment

You really dont like this show Hownos?
Or are you just goofing?
Just curious...
Not being judgy

I don't like fantasy - I missed the whole Lord of the Rings trilogy also.

reply

I see
I guess fantasy shows are just fun imo...
But thats cool
Carry on Hownos:)

I never cared much for the fantasy genre myself...particularly of the medieval variety.
You and I might be one of the few in the world that never got into the Lord of the Rings Trilogy..

But my brother talked me into giving GOT a chance and I found the back stabbing manipulating dirty politics of it all do remind me of the extreme ways some people seek power and control regardless of the consequences. Only now they dabble more in character assassination rather than physical death. But they're still just as sociopathic about it. Honor and integrity is often a vulnerability rather than a strength when you're up against malignant forces..

The magic is mostly in the background and most characters don't believe it until they see it. It's not taken for granted. That could represent conspiracy or technology or faith or however you want to interpret it.
The dragons could represent drones or nuclear weapons or chemical weapons that aren't 100% controllable but that some people think save more people as they casually take out innocents along the way.
Melisandre could represent the evils of a religion where the end justifies the means and it's easy for them to justify the sacrifice and murder of anyone that disagrees innocent or guilty.
The WW could represent climate change or radical groups like Isis or anything anyone believes that we all need to come together against.
There's some interpretation for everyone in this show. But seldom does any of it seem childlike to me.

<< i missed the whole Lord of the Rings trilogy >>

I found that film (only saw the first one) to be a bit babyish....partially because there were no women around. It was like an extended Hardy Boys adventure.

I don't think of GoT as having that much fantasy in it, actually. There's the occasional shadow baby, but most of the characters will just cut you, straight up, given the chance.

It strikes me as more like a Medieval historical drama.

Yeah i respect your point...
The various historical events its inspired by give GOT its charm imo (backstabbing, deceptions, crappy leaders etc) but the fantasy element gives it all a nice bit of fun
AND im always amazed that a crazy show featuring dragons and seers and witches is such a huge hit with so many of my co-workers
They are a generally serious and boring bunch ...

I think the fact that you made a thread for this purpose seems like you're just baiting people. If you really think that then you don't understand the show. Go back to your cave

<< Go back to your cave >>

Yeah....go explore a MOON DOOR!

The Moon Door STILL freaks me out
