The Wall (Potential Unaired SPOILERS)

It occurred to me that the Night King and his buddies may not go over, under or through the Wall -- they might go around it.

Eastwatch is the easternmost castle guarding the Wall and it abuts the Bay of Seals. Salt water freezes at 28.4 degrees Fahrenheit. If the current winter is really going to compare to the one that brought The Long Night, when the sun disappeared for years, it seems possible that enough of the Bay could freeze over for the army of the dead to just walk across it. A small strip of coastal ice is all it would take, and The Wall becomes the Maginot Line just like that.

Looks like mods are getting salty and some emasculated guys feeling too insecure about themselves. Snitches get stitches...

I don't know about "salty", but we do delete links to illegal content hosted on malware-laden websites.

I got adblockers and scriptblockers running so I don't notice any malware.
Sorry if it's an issue for some.

yes that theory is totally solid and I always found it weird that the wall just ends by the water and they think that's protection enough to keep smth out. I mean the wall itself is huge and it's not just about size and ice blocks, magics are carved into it too.. but by the east watch it just ends and the only protection is water, that can be frozen. or something might figure out how to cross it... pretty week spot if you ask me.

I don't know why that would be necessary. He touched Bran and that essentially gave him an all access pass through anything protected by magic. Bran knew that, and the rank amateur that he is still passed through the wall. Now the NK can do the same.

That may (or may not) handle the magic portion, but it's still a 700 foot ice wall and the zombies don't seem like they would be coordinated enough to climb it all that well.

Which brings another question -- why have the northerners not already sent all of their strength to defend the Wall, since it seems like the best place to stop them? You know, instead of hanging out at Winterfell whining about Jon and flattering Sansa?

reply

I don't know. Remember how the wights were climbing the weirwood like they were a bunch of spidermen?

My guess is that they destroy the wall and go through it. But they do bring the cold with them, so the chances of them going around are possible.

As we've seen so far, Eastwatch appears well defended. It appears to have multiple levels along the side of the wall as well. The full name for it is Eastwatch-by-the-Sea.

As we saw in 7x06, the White Walkers do not appear to like water, and it was able to stop them in their tracks, at least for a short time. The wild waves of the sea may be even more effective.
