Why check Claire out?

Let me start by saying i really like this movie and this isn't really a criticism more of why did they do that post.

Ok so they got away with doing the first robbery but then see from her license after they take Claire hostage and release her that she is a local girl but why follow up with her?

They make it seem like because she only lives 4 blocks away that she will automatically identify them, its not like its a tiny village where everyone knows everybody so why the need to follow her and see who's she talking too.
I know this is pretty much much the main premise of the film but i feel they forced this scenario to run the romantic angle of the story line and i think would of been more natural if he had met her later on coincidently and then the relationship developed from there.

As you said, it was a plot device. Making contact with her only increases their chance of getting IDed by her.

reply

Yeah it doesn't make any sense.

Yeah, they could have just Affleck at that laundry mat REALLY washing clothes and had her happen to be there as well, like she was, and have her come to him for coins, like she did.
It would’ve been more organic and worked better for the script i feel.

reply

Yea I kinda thought so to when I saw this. To me Doug had mommy issues so he felt he had to force stuff with the girl. But yea for the script they should've just ran into each other washing clothes not Doug just sitting in there watching her. Feels contrived u know.

reply

Had the script of the The Town involved Doug and Claire meeting by chance while they were both washing clothes in the laundromat, that would've made the film more interesting, but that wouldn't have made the fact that Claire got involved in a wholesale romance with Doug MacRay any smarter, or more correct.

reply

The whole movie is forced down its script.
Stalking Claire was the stupidest and most forced bit of all.
A random encounter would have improved it quite a lot, but again, why the hell would he not run the opposite direction the second he identifies her?

He simply had ZERO reasons to be near this girl, other than a deathwish.

reply

Ya, I had to stop watching after they started to hook-up 1 hr in.
I could not ignore the stoopidness of the plot contrivance.
And then tattoo guy wanted to kill her on the off chance she would help the FBI (he didn't know she saw his tattoo). Too much.
