I watched the first three episodes and am not sure if this is for me.

Does the show get more interesting? I know some shows take a couple episodes or even seasons to get going. What could I compare this show to?

reply

It does, but don't force yourself. Not everything is for everyone. Especially since it is 15 seasons long.

It doesn't compare to much. It is sort of a buddy cop show, mixed in with plenty family drama, all while fighting supernatural beings.

It's a series that is a slow burner. You need to give it time to get into the lead characters and their back stories. Watch it from the top, and give the first season a good chance for it to work. According to a number of critics it is considered to be one of the best, of its 15 year run. The chemistry between the leads is what made me stay, hope its the same for you, followed by the story telling.

reply

The chemistry is what kept me, too, after season 5, but, you have to admit, it kinda waned down after Crowley left.

beauq81 I seemed to remember you from IMDb. Mark bought a quality to the show that seemed to keep it going. I think we also have the writers to thank for that too in many ways. Mark had the best one-liners and he had a certain way of performing comedy which allowed him to stand out more than other actors. He knew how to charm us too and at the same time be the villain. I also got as an actor he knew how to work the camera, being in front of it. He got into us and he just managed to captivate us in a certain way. Mark Pelligrino is also good at this too. I still feel both actors were let down at the end, and that is a real, real shame. Both men deserved better.

reply

Yeah, I was on IMDb. Lucifer got watered down. From cracking jokes about "Lucifer" (I don't know if you remember the line "What am I gonna do, move to LA and solve crime?" 😂), they copied it and made him a spoiled kid with daddy issues.

I was surprised when I read that Shepherd had a bad time filming the show. I always took him as a part of the ensemble, sometimes more than Misha. His entire arc was more compelling.

reply

I missed Mark more than I ever realised I would, and as you say he did for me at times too take over Misha. His story was so more interesting. Again, that's how Sheppard puts across his character and brings out the best in the writing.

Yes, you're right about Lucifer having 'Daddy issues' is what I picked up on too. It got so preidicatable and damned boring. I don't remember that line, but then my memory is crap at the best of times. These two are such great actors in delivering that bad guy image and its stood the test of time. I bet when we look back on this show in twenty years we will still remember these characters for the same reasons. What they bought, and how they bought that character alive. I don't think this show will ever date. We saw some great characters.

The anti-hero characters, what Crowley definitely was, bring a lot of humor, but the witty kind. Castiel was funny at times, but it was the goofy kind of funny. That is why Crowley was more appealing, made you think. Castiel was a robot learning to be human. Crowley was a bad guy trying to redeem himself, so more people could relate. Plus, his mommy issues were more interesting than Lucifer's daddy issues. 😂

God, I so miss Rowena and Crowley together. I thought how she died was so selfless and how elegantly she took it, held it on her chin and just went with it. I loved Crowley so much I even named my dog after Fergus McLeod his meat suit that's how much I loved that character. When I go dog walking its surprising the number of people who have named their pets after TV characters and who watch Supernatural which really surprised me. But I so get you about the daddy issues. There were some characters I didn't like to start with but then as time went on my mood changed and I switched. But I always stayed in tune with Crowley have you watched him back Season 5 EP10 when he first started, he's so young and it shows.

The show I am getting into now is the Witcher and its brilliant, watch it if you get a chance. Season 2 comes out just before Christmas Dec 20th. Henry Cavill is playing the lead, and he so owns it.

Saw it when it came out, it was great. They kept to the books as much as they could, hope they keep it up.

My most unlikable characters were the Leviathans. The whole corporate schtick kinda threw me off.

reply

The witcher is going to run for another 6 years so I've heard. I never read the books so not sure how true to it they are. Henry had an injury and they had to hault filming for a bit, but are on track again now.

I hated the Levianth story line too. The CGI monster teeth were just awful. Both Sera's seasons were not that great. I think I hated souless Sam with a real passion. They just didn't know how to write him souless.

Let's face it - Padalecki isn't much of an actor. OK, but not that good. I can see Jensen doing more, but Jared peaked with Supernatural. I tried watching Walker just because of him, but nothing. He'd be better in daytime TV.

reply

At one time he said after SPN he said if it wasn't for Walker he would give up acting because he felt insecure in front of the camera. I liked Walker they all seemed to connect and the stories were strong for a first season. I was however, disappointed with the finale. I am looking foward to S2.

I couldn't get past episode 3,and that was me trying to wait it out. It gets better?

reply

The whole god angle ruined the show imo...

reply

The first season, particularly the first half, feels a lot more random and procedural then it will become.

It begins to pick up near the end of the season and the second season begins to set up the premise that will ultimately carry the show. The characters will become more dimensional and interesting and the direction will either grab you or not.

But essentially it's about 2 brothers heavily bonded to one another and fated to take on the fate of the world and fight evil while trying to hang onto their humanity. They carry on along with an assortment of angels and demons and everything between where it's not always easy to tell the good guys from the bad.
It gets very dark at times...but other times it might have you laughing so hard you cry.
You should give it a shot.

Read the posts from the fans of this thing. Do you really want to be one of them?

reply

This is an inherently broken question, you need to first describe what you don't find interesting before asking if the show gets better. Of course the show after season 5 was supernatural in name only, monster of the week becomes massively under-powered super monster of the season with all rules thrown out.

reply

Season 1 had a few slow moments. The show gets really good later on. Seasons 4 & 5 are excellent.

reply

I enjoyed this, particularly seasons 1-5. However, it might just be that this is not for you.
